Description
Like me you may well have heard the news that Hayao Miyazaki is to retire from feature film directing . When I heard the news this picture is the first thing that came to mind! I think it's because the sheer depth of imagination, creativity and enthusiasm contributors to the Felarya universe exhibit reminds me of Studio Ghibli-esque works, full of bold ideas and evocative stories. I am sad he's retiring, but I wanted to celebrate his accomplishments - hence this rather upbeat remembrance of one of my favourite films. Crisis has made a new friend!Totoro belongs to Hayao Miyazaki

Gaaaahh this is so fricken adorable! Felarya definitely has it's influences from Miyazaki I think, namely the Sea of Corruption from NausicaΓ€ of the Valley of the Wind. It's truly sad that he's finally retiring though, I will greatly miss his movies. I've seen some of Goro Miyazaki's but they're not quite the same as his fathers.

Oh yes, definitely! Lots of little ways the things that inspire us have crept into this crazy world we share Ah well, hopefully he will really come into his own in future works, there's still yet. Thank you for commenting!

Cute picture though. And Boobs. Always a plus.
Crisis very Kute.

I know, his smile so wide and vacant - if you wrote a creepypasta about him it wouldn't be hard to make him the monster! Thank you for commenting

No the smile alone won't do! If we are making a creepypasta there has to be blood, lots and lots of blood! Blood form the mouth, eyes, nose, arm pits even the No-No areas have to have blood!
It also has to be hyper-realistic and needs .exe at the end.
Felarya.exe

Haha right on mate! Athough you need to find a suitably creepy old man selling it from a car boot sale with no proper justification

And it is a haunted video game.
And like every character is gutted and hung and shit.
And then there's a Crisis plush with black eyes and stuff.
I'd keep the plushie

It's a shame that he is going away, looking forward to "The Wind Rises" when it comes out, it'll be saddening to think that this will be the last Miyazaki film that I'll ever go to see in theaters

It will be, but at the same time, Studio Ghibli is still going very strong, and his son, Goro, seems to be starting to hit his stride; his most recent project, From Up on Poppy Hill, had a extremely positive release. So we'll definitely continue to see the hand of Miyazaki in animation for some time to come. It'll simply come from Goro, and not Hayao, Miyazaki.
So I feel pretty up-beat. Miyazaki has had a pretty considerable career, and produced some of the most iconic films ever made, animated or otherwise. It's left a definite impression on his teammates, and on animation in general, and that's something that won't be going anywhere. To be honest, I'll be very eager to see what post-Hayao Miyazaki work makes it over to the US from Ghibli.

Oh yes, absolutely! I scrapped the first sketch of this picture as it felt too morose - I wanted this to be a celebration of his work, not implying that there won't be anything worthwhile produced in the future. Just because he's getting off at this station doesn't mean the train won't continue on to new and exciting things

MukatKiKaarn In reply to SimonLorimer [2013-09-28 02:23:14 +0000 UTC]
Exactly ^^ I'm glad you went with the more up-beat tone then, instead.

So I think it's worth seeing what the future will be for Studio Ghibli; like I said, I'm pretty excited for what the future holds, as much as I've enjoyed what Miyazaki has brought us.

I heard that he said that he was going to retire on multiple occasions in the past, but never did. Β I personally never heard of those announcements, but if they are true, then I'm taking this with a grain of salt.

SimonLorimer In reply to Shady-Knight [2013-09-26 22:07:12 +0000 UTC]
I know he actually did retire once, and only came back as a relief worker due to the unexpected departure of another of Ghibli's directors. That was way back in 2003, so I think this might genuinely be it for him this time!
