Playing with my Ray redesign. I've been thinking about bringing back the uni-eyeball to distinguish him from Tails more. Also been toying with getting rid of the jacket, because I've seen a lot of people make him look cute without it. Haven't picked one yet, just like exploring my options.
Lineup here:
- Closer to SEGASonic design
- My original redesign
- Streamlined cross of SEGA and my redesign, inspired by the way draws him
- Streamlined version inspired by the way draws him
- Version combining all my favorite parts
I should've drawn more of them with the jacket on. :V
You've got my permission to use any of these designs for drawing Ray if you want to. You don't need to ask. (I'd love to see what you come up with if you do though!)

Personally I love Ray with darker, almost brown cheeks, so I naturally gravitate towards 2. But I think the fur color of 3 would look better with 2's cheek color, and I prefer 3/4's shoe design (simpler and cuter). But also I kinda dislike Ray wearing a jacket at all

His adorableness is murdering on my eyes and soul. but I really like the last one the most I like the lighter colors for his muzzle and stomach.

He doesn't, I just like to draw him with longer hair so that he looks a little more... I dunno, "spritely youth-like"? I picture Mighty ruffling his hair a lot, and I think that just evolved into him having it longer in the back. XD

The second and last ones are the best but there all so awesome!!!

The last one is the best I think. He looks way more complete with the jacket on and it goes well with his shoes. I like how his tail is a bit fuzzy and how you matched the color of his shoe-straps to the light blue of his jacket.

I've had the same problem until this picture, where I finally said: OKAY GOTTA JUST PICK ONE FOR THE REST OF FOREVER. I think I'm leaning towards 5 myself. XD

It's really hard sometimes! Sometimes, you want him to wear the jacket, sometimes not, sometimes you question whether you want to give him flaps, then there's the hairstyle and there's also what color his muzzle/belly should be; do you want it darker like in SegaSonic or lighter like in Archie? IT'S HARD STUFF!
I think #5 is a pretty solid choice. It keeps a lot of the original features of Ray (non-separate eyes, dark-ish muzzle, the up-do hair) while adding some of the new ones (the jacket, the shoes somewhat) all while still having your own flair to it (the hair in the back, the design of the shoes). It also stays pretty true to his species with the bushy squirrel tail rather than the 'club' tail.

Yeah, I just took all of my favorite parts of each of his designs and threw them all together and got #5. I think it turned out pretty cool! x3

I like the third one best, though I'm debating if he still needs the jacket. It's mostly the fur/skin coloring that influenced my decision. And the tail. It was either 2 or 3.

2, 3, and 5 are the ones I'm caught between. He looks cute without the skin flaps and jacket, but I feel like it makes it weird for him to be a "flying" squirrel. So... yeah, IDK. XD

Maybe the skin flaps are just hidden and they come out then needed. He is a comic book/video game character after all.
