The best and worst of the series. Best brushwork, probably weakest concept. This is Frig with her doomed child Balder, and she has forseen his future, she holds him close, but she's melancholy, since she knows his future. People tend to mistake this for a Madonna and child. I guess there are some paralells.Related content

I find that myth doesn't make sense, if she can see the future why does she forget the mistletoe. Possibly got a bit muddled over the centuies.

i dont think its a weak concept since its my favorite one of my favorite goddesses mythologically
except its theologically incorrect since frigga was the one who accidentaly told loki the method by which he had killed balder. and hadnt known he would die beforehand, and balder was acttualy the one who'd had the dreams prophesizing his own death. but ive gotten away from myself - it is however a beautiful piece one of my favorite on DA. very intimate and detailed.

Thanks very much for the comment. And for the info too, I guess I aught to have gone back and read through the myths again before I conceptualized this. I knew that Balder had visions of his death; I thought Frig did also; maybe my brain embellished the story a little.

this drawing is one of the most beautiful. Yes there are some parallels with the Madonna and child. Tne trouble with knowing the future is that you sometimes cannot prevent it and this is highlighted in Frigg's pensive image at knowing the fate of Baldr the Good.

Thank you. It's ink wash, and a little bit of gesso for highlights (and corrections). Just dilute some India ink with water, and paint it on like water color. (Unless you want solid black, then just use straight up ink). You get richer, more opaque tones than with water color, and it's a little more permanent, but I like working with it a lot. Except that it takes me forever to do.
