overall shape, and trying to finish it off on a set time, not very successful but good practice c:
I have a bad tendency of overworking things and ruining for myself.

Very good! It's good that you've set you own target and goal for your paintings and exercises. I don't think you should worry about overworking things, I feel you are on the right path and will reach where you want to be!
