Description I started my patreon this year. It's still taking shape.
One thing I was trying to do with that platform was to offer the sorts of maps that some people have requested...
Regional maps that have no regional information, or that are not already set in an imaginary environment, like Luma and Nhyn.
I started this project out as single pages from an atlas sort of thing.
Each section is fit on an 8.5 x 11 piece of paper. Then later I have been piecing them together.
the lower section here was the first section drawn. The upper part is the 5th section.
So far, there are 8 total sections, but I am thinking there will be more.
If for nothing else other than to do fill out the top of the landmasses.

I started out offering the pages uncolored to patrons, in case they wanted to have fun deciding their own colors.
I will likely be doing them as full color. Patrons get higher res images, as well as some other assorted perks.
I will probably release most of the content out onto the net at some point.
But for now I am offering them to patrons first.

I tried an experiment with pricing for patreon. It was $1 starting and you could offer what you liked above that
to help support the maps you enjoy. That has been acceptable but not stellar.
I may add a tier in the new year for some special products, maybe.
I never know how much time I will have with work commissions and such.

Hope everyone is having a good holiday season. Be safe. Don't eat too much.

edit - I closed my patreon.

Those coastlines are so beautiful ...

Thanks Thomas

They were fun to work on.

It's going to be fun bringing the big piece together.

We'll have 8 sheets into one big one.

Later I will probably add a few more, just to fill out a few coast areas.

It''l be huge. Probably 12 or 16 pages once fully completed.

My Boredom Country has that multiple sheets characteristic. I'll find time to work on it again one day.

Thanks Mészáros

Oddly, not as long as you might think.
Part of the process was to try to develop a style that was a bit faster to render.

That sort of worked here. I am definitely faster with pencil than digital.

Haha, it's funny when someone calls me Mészáros That's my surname We hungarians have them in the other order. surname comes first, then the given name
I love both your digital and traidional works, though it makes sense that something like this would go faster with a pencil. amazing.

Aaaah, so it's Flora. That makes more sense.

Now that I look at it, I really should have noticed that.

I enjoy working on digital things, but it's easier and more natural for me to start with a pencil sketch at least.

I think it may be that I can see the whole image all at once. With digital, I tend to zoom in.

It's Boglárka We are weird. Our order of names are like this: surname, firstname, middlename Flora is my middle name I know... makes no sense

And omg, yes, I so understand what you say about seeing the whole image. That is my pain with digital art as well

Hehe. well, that makes Hungarian more unique.

And that uniqueness lead to a conversation, so that's always cool.

It is amazing how all of the options with digital , and being able to zoom in closer, can actually make the process harder.

That said, I can sometimes do better concept sketching with digital.

I'll use a number of low opacity layers to really rough sketch and refine the drawing.

That is harder on paper for me. I'm too frugal with wasting paper.

Haha, yes

Traditional and digital both have their perks though Ctrl+Z is a huge huge bonus to digital I love both your digital and traditional works here and on IG as well

That's a direct consequence of pencil being less forgiving than digital. No CMD+Z allowed

I erase more than you might realize.

I start out with a really light pencil, like a 2h or 4h.

I lay down some light line work then go back over it with darker pencil.

Then if it's going to be inked, i redraw all the lines in ink.

A ridiculous process, but it works for me.

And somehow it can still be faster than all digital linework. which is kind of crazy.

Oh, I know you erase a lot but drawing a line has an irredeemable feel digital hasn't. Thanks for the H tip. Having no art background, I dove right in with a 2B and things can get messy pretty quick. Most of the time I get bored with the pencil and go direct to inking halfway into the design. I can draw a full map with ink in 2 hours with results close to a 20 hours digital map, go figure ...

There could be.... so many dream of an island...

Maybe it's a feel of one's own little kingdom, but not too terribly big and hard to administer

You put way to much work into this map.

SirInkman In reply to Spiritswriter123 [2018-11-27 03:11:47 +0000 UTC]

It was a decent amount of work, but not terrible.

Why? Do you think less work should go into patreon content?

Ah, the magic of untitled maps.
That's when my brain starts to dream from unknown shores and lands far over the wide ocean.
A source of inspiration

That's also how I often think about it.

I'm okay with that Mobiyuz

I love the terrain and coasts of Scotland.

That was more of a compliment, I like the rugged, crinkly look that the Hebrides and Scotland's west coast have.

No worries.
