Description
Well, it took quite a while to figure out sizes, emotions and the right degree- amount of influence/inspiration here.I started reading at an early age, 4 or so. Reading was the most exciting thing i could get where i lived, so once the papers and Classical books ran out, my grandfather started sharing with me his magazines (El Tony, Nippur, Intervalo; all Argentinian comics anthologies). That's how it all started, 24 years ago.
Let's see, from Left to Right, Up to Down when prompted:
1- Nippur of Lagash, conceived by Robin Wood and Designed by the great Lucho Olivera (R.I.P.).
There will never be such a character on any media who can even compare with Nippur. The Quintaessential Human Hero. Period.
2- Dago, created by Robin Wood, Illustrated by Alberto Salinas (R.I.P.).
Some people think mixing real Historic events on a fictional story has reached its peak with Rurouni Kenshin. Well, it's obvious these people have never read Dago. The Quintaessential Anti-Hero.
3- ALF, in any media, was so fun to draw! I loved the character and later on, when the animated series and the comics appeared, putting myself to draw him was a must.
4- TMNT; whoo... long story:
I met TMNT at the arcade games, when i was 8 or so. Later on, with the movies, toys, cartoons and stuff legally "gettable" for me, i just got crazy.
TMNT pics were the first drawings which i did to earn some money (on 3rd grade, many boys liked to have them painted and on a big size for only AR$0,10)
5- UFO Robot Grendizer by Go Nagai. Three Words: WAY-TOO-AWESOME.
6- Mazinger by Go Nagai. What an incredible design. Like an Argentinian magazine said a couple of years ago, Mazinger is "the robot with the best robot face in history"
7- The Simpsons. I hate them now, but back in the day (1993) it was an absolute hysteria. I used to draw Bart Simpson on almost every drawable surface, and for almost 3 years The Simpsons were the only thing i liked to draw.
On 4th Grade i switched TMNT for the Simpsons for money (a cool, a4 full-coloured Bartman for only AR$0,10! I remember i've sold nearly 29 on a single day until my teachers found out and punished me for it XD)
8- Street Fighter II. An eternal idillium. Best fighting game ever conceived. Club Nintendo Magazines had a lot of incredible game art i used to make my own versions of characters.
Back off, KoF groupies, i'll slam you down with an unblockable Shoryuken if you don't...!
9- X-MEN, the animated series. From the opening itself, a very cool series (still got an MP3 with it). First time i knew Wolverine, and i had to draw it everyday, everytime!
10- Megaman. MEGAMAN, MEGAMAN, MEGAMAN, MEGAMAN, MEGAMAN.
When i read Capcom was accepting fan-made Robot Masters' designs for Megaman 5 and 6, i started doing my own designs. I was obsessed with it and all the games. And when i played Megaman X, i freaked out big time!
Probably the biggest inspiration up to this day to keep on drawing. I love Megaman.
11- Captain Tsubasa OH-MY-GOD. I never believed i could witness such an exciting football soccer match. Both thrilling and so inspiring to draw...! Devoted fan of genzo Wakabayashi and Kojiro Hyuuga.
12- Sailor Moon I just started drawing girls after watching this TV anime. Man, there was something way too erotic on their transformations...
13- KamiKaze by Satoshi Shiki. I've read lotsa mangas being a teenager (before the Internet explosion: back in that day, you browsed via 56-k modem and Using Netscape Navigator Gold, running on Windows 95, IF you had a computer, which wasn't my case).
But Kamikaze story and art had some kind of strange appeal to me; some drawings resemble Street Fighter designs a lot, and that's why i think i liked it that much.
14- Batman. No words for it; he's been always around my head when i try to come up with something cool. Coolest among the coolest!
15- Final Fantasy VIII. The first RPG i played on PSX, and the one that definitely caught my eye.
All the character designs were so out of this world at that time, that i had to investigate ven further, and then i knew Tetsuya Nomura, one of my favourite artists up to this day.
