Description
This is the first time I'm posting one of my metal pieces on DA. The others were practice and, while proud of them, I didn't feel right in posting them here. What we have here is a commission piece for a friend of mine, "Mod Max". He had seen the other pieces and really liked them. I really let him have a lot of control in how this turned out. It was a real learning experience for me in dealing with my own personal art process versus another person's desired results.
The main image is a coloured in version of "PipBoy" (from one of the greatest pc game series of all time, Fallout) that's been kicking around the net forever. I'm considering it public domain at this point (if anyone disagrees or challenges that, I'm open to any argument and would consider removing it if necessary).
What I've been working on is this idea of "nose art", similar to WW2 planes. The canvas is a big hunk of genuine metal, salvaged from around here. I'm somewhat reluctant to say what it really is but, I bet, some of you could guess.
There are around a hundred screws pretending to be rivets and they've all been hammered in to create a nice dent for texture.
The piece is about 4 feet x 3 feet.

great job, i once tried to paint on stainless steelplate, without understanding first that nothing will stick on it ;D
Very good pipboy, i have allways loved fallout, even wasteland, heh but then again i am as old as you
Feeling bit complex about the coming fallout 3, but it will probably be decent.. havent played oblivion so i cant say i have knowledge first hand about the 3d interface and how it works on a roleplaying game..

I was surprised at how well the water based screen printing ink worked on it. Regular acrylic paint just peeled off. A strange world.
I was worried about Fallout 3 until I played Oblivion. After that, I felt a lot more confident that it should be pretty amazing. Sure different, but good. I've since read some interviews with the designers and am happy that they've been playing the game for as long as you and I have and don't want to stray too far.
Oh, and thanks for the fav and compliments, hehe.
