I know there are hundreds of colouring tutorials on here, but I just fancied making one.
Also, being English I always feel some pressure to spell "Colouring" the American way, just because the odds are somewhat against me...

i know this is a stupid question (forgive me for I am new in the world of uploading art), but what do you mean by scanning? How does one scan? And what do you do after you scan?

Hah no, I just have moments of stupidity. One day I just have to sit down and read a dictionary from cover to cover to eliminate some moments. I haven't said anything stupid in a while though, so I guess I was due.

THANK YOU. I'm using this to help me do the cover of a project for school, and it's looking fabulous already. Since the average skill level of DA is so high, it's hard to find tutorials for so-called "basic" things like this. This is WONDERFUL.

While I am normally very good at picking colors that look good NEXT to each other, I'm not at all good at picking colors that BLEND well with each other. Without turning into a funny brownish greenish thing.

Have a seperate sheet of paper for practicing? Or use a colour wheel: [link] if something's opposite something else it's a good blender. So this explains why I used green in a red/pink drawing.

Haha, I thought about that... but this is a technique that I *knew* I could do well, whereas the sharpie one is still a tad hit and miss.
The basic conceit is that you start with your black/silhouettes- the closer to the edge/dark they are, the more solid the black. And then you shade out from them- like this tutorial really, getting lighter- but using biros/crosshatching rather than shading with pencil. And then you start with the colours- shading OVER the black to make it more 3D- and do the rest of the drawing normally.
But you have to work with a colour pallette that uses black as an actual colour tather than just as "dark" (so it wouldn't work with my little fish, she's too colourful, but it works with trees, caves, rocks... greens and browns. I'll try and draw a spooky fishtank or something.

Well I think Americans need a bit of other cultures you know? If they don't know that colouring is the same as coloring, then they should learn.
Nice tutorial, by the way. I'm crap at coloring. But I do love to do it. Haven't done it in a while, though.
Oh and off topic a bit but for some reason I always write theater as theatre. Don't know why. And I write gray as grey but that's because I swear that's how I learned it in pre-school. I'm odd with my writing. I also have a bad habit of writing my middle name like, ELizabeth. On the computer it's not so tempting, but on paper I have to catch myself. And this is how I've always been. I don't know why I want to capitalize the L.

Haha, I didn't mean that they wouldn't know what it was... just that when you're putting information into a conglomeration of cultures you tend to default to the most prominent one. The funniest example I ever had was a concerned email from someone on ff.net, who read one of my stories and liked it, but "really thought I should revise my spelling."

I hate stuff like that, where people think that their way is the only way. I say just write the way you normally do. I mean, there are people on here from France who will do their journal entries and sometimes even their artist comment in French even though English tends to be the prominent language on here.
If nothing else, I can assure you that all you have to do for ff.net is put the county you live in and Americans will go, "Ah, okay, that explains it." Every country always thinks another country is weird. Haha!
Have you ever been reading something and a word comes up with the lowercase R and N right next to each other and you mistake it for the lowercase M? Like the word darn. The R and N can be so close together the word looks like dam. On here it's easy to see the different, though.

Yeah- DA's a bit different, people seem to be quite happy to use Google Translate to fit the artist description.

My mum's handwriting is really just mountains and swamps- if the letter has a tower like, t, l, b then you can read it, if it's a flat aeiourmnsc or whatever then you pretty much have to guess.

Yeah I sometimes want to correct those whose native language isn't English when they make errors, but I have to squish that part of me down till it's dead cause I know they're still learning.
Yeah like if an overweight American goes anywhere and someone's like omg you're fat! All they gotta say is, "I'm American," and the person will be like, oh, okay then. It's sad.
My grandma's writing is hard to read. But when I can read it it's funny because sometimes she forgets like an S or something or spells something the way it sounds. But she had better spelling than her dad did, that's for sure.

Haha! It's true, though, you know. It's crazy how we are all just content to sit here and say stuff about other countries as a whole that is really negative.
Buuut it does give comedians some good material. I mean I'm sure you guys love hearing jokes about Americans just like we like hearing jokes about the English.
And then EVERYONE rips on France. Everyone wants to go there but no one likes the French...O_o how odd is that? lofl!
That guy is really funny, by the way. I've been trying to watch some good stand-up for a while but what's on Netflix isn't the greatest. The only really good one was Jeff Dunham but the last 20 minutes of his show was all Peanut and I HATE that puppet. I'm a Walter fan.

Dara O Briain is one of my favourite comedians... I think two of his acts are completely on Youtube (Talks Funny/Live at the Apollo)... Rob Brydon is another one
And it's just an easy target thing. Like, I'm from the south of England and we take the piss out of the Northeners, and vice versa. Although I now live in the North so most of -the jokes are directed at me.
And yeah- jokes about the Americans run rife, especially on our ad lib shows like mock the week. Again, easy targets.

The 'Mail is the most racist, bigoted piece of crap newspaper in the world. Oh, and a great percentage of the British public believe everything that's written. Recent gems include, "This pop star deserved to die because he was homosexual" and "All of the unemployed in England are only that because immigrants are being given the jobs." Pure lowest-common-denominator tripe. Also, the guy who owns it has also bought out the journalist standards board so he can't be sued.

Ugh! It's like that one family in the lower 48. The ones who protest against military funerals and do and say all sorts of terrible things. They say they're Christian but I very much doubt that God wants anything like that to be done.
