Description
Dear Size-enthusiasts, we have been gathering feedback from the community for the last few weeks, and one question that has come up persistently is this: how are you really going to pull this off? Many of you fear that this will result in another DashCon, which is certainly a reasonable concern. That being said, we have created the following document to pull the curtains back and give you a look into the behind-the-scenes work that has been put into the production of SizeCon. Hopefully after reading this document, you’ll see that not only are we 100% committed to SizeCon, but that we’re also both prepared and capable of executing it as well.

Nicely done. Is there a possibility for booths? I would do a green screen booth.

The net cast simply wasn't big enough, this is an offbeat fetish with hundreds of fractures on the typical things you'd find within it. As such, people can be very particular about what they like about it. It's not like a show or something, where you can like a character, or hate a character;but you still like the rest of it. These are turn ons and offs. I get nothing from these renders of scene girl crushes a thing, or random thin giantess stands with other random thing giantess.
To get a bigger turn out, you would need to introduce as many facets of the fetish as you possibly can and with such a small window to work with, you set yourself up to fail from the start. I think the idea of a SizeCon could work as a whole. It would just need far more planning and preparation; not to mention a smaller, more central venue.
That said, the representation for people diminished beyond an inch and below was underwhelming. There was literally nothing for me here and I'm sure others with even more obscure kinks within the fetish as a whole felt just as alienated.

Slyworks,
I absolutely agree with your points. It's been tough to directly solicit every subgroup within the size community, but I hope that you'll agree that our obvious efforts to bring in inflation, furry and M/m artists should encourage other subgroups.
We'll look to expand our reach moving forward.
Sincerely,
Bryan

It's my turn to descend like the little black cloud I seem to delight in being. I feel I should preface this, as ever, with the statement that I don't particularly want to see SizeCon crash and burn. I have no way of attending; I wouldn't attend in the event that I was able to. That said, I understand the appeal in expanding the welcoming, open environment that the meets have thus far been providing, so beyond the ability to sit on my high horse and say "I told you so!" - which, horrid as it is, I'm still waiting for - I don't actually have anything in particular against SizeCon or those organizing it.
There are still a couple of elephants in the room, though. This Executive Plan serves as a pretty decent example of at least one of them. "Not only are we 100% committed to SizeCon, but that we’re also both prepared and capable of executing it as well." I don't think at any stage anybody has questioned the commitment of those behind SizeCon working to make it happen, but this document releases just ten days out from the close of the Kickstarter with two thirds of the funding still to be pledged, and illustrates the same frantic but determined unpreparedness of everything else so far. This is something that should have been ready from the beginning. The website is something that should have been ready from the beginning.
As far as marketing goes, the lack of anything concrete has been far more damning than any of the hard work that's come out as a result. It's too late, every time - rather than hit the ground running with a strong wind at the back of the SizeCon team it's seemed to be a constant game of catch-up and harried, desperate damage control. The request has gone out to those who can't attend to consider backing the project nonetheless, as a way of pitching in to the community. As a potential investor? I'm simply not sold.
Second, I think the numbers assumed out of GiantessCity are a little optimistic. This isn't something I can remotely prove, of course. However, the assertion that these will be buffed out by members of other sites doesn't really have a lot of traction behind it. Last I checked there were three watching the SizeCon FurAffinity page - there are still people asking on Twitter, "Wait, what is this thing?" The research wasn't done. The preparation wasn't done. The impression that SizeCon has outside of DA and (what I assume is supposed to be) GiantessCity is not good. To rhyme with abysmal. It's a laughing stock, thus far. I'm not bringing this to the table to rub anyone's nose in it, but this is the impression that needs to be made more obvious, clearly. The 'too little, too late' attitude is what's tanking SizeCon on Twitter, and I can only assume it's the same elsewhere based on what I've seen. Again, take my position as anecdotal at best, but know quite honestly that I'm not alone in this.
Third... Asking for funding over Christmas? I still can't fathom this. SizeCon 2016 in July or August, and let the Kickstarter finish in the likes of February, when everyone's actually got something in their back pocket they can spare on frivolous stuff like this.
I seem to keep showing up to piss in people's breakfast, but I think this discussion merits an opinion beyond either cheerful optimism or 'it'll be full of mouthbreathers.' It looks likes a scrambled-together mess. I can't say with certainty that SizeCon in April 2016 will happen or not, but I'm coming here with my hat in my hands and the best of intentions - despite what the pealing bell of doom I'm ringing might sound like - to ask that those who are close to the project don't let that determination cloud potential lessons. There's been an answer to everything, but are the questions, concerns and criticisms really getting through? Take a step back. Ask who actually wanted SizeCon. If it happens, do it right. If it doesn't happen straight away? Don't start pointing fingers and making sweeping accusations about the lack of DETERMINATION.
You're pushing a new convention out of nowhere to a cautious estimate of 135 people. This sort of thing needs to be what you lead with, not 'We are chock full of enthusiasm!' We all are. I worked a one day convention four years running. Enthusiasm is no match for caffeine and reality, guys.

SizeCon In reply to kritheavix [2015-12-24 07:47:32 +0000 UTC]
Kritheavix,
You make great points. I think in general our project is certainly going to require a leap of faith. It was always going to be a small convention, and we hope no one thought otherwise. Furthermore, we take absolutely zero offense when skeptics like yourself bring up legitimate concerns (there will be no finger-pointing or sweeping accusations ).
I'll reiterate that our approach was one of simultaneous marketing/recruitment. Many artists that we reached out to initially ignored us only to donate a piece of artwork after seeing how tenacious our efforts were, and how it was catching on. That in turn allowed us to reach out to niches within the size community that we wouldn't have reached otherwise, such as expansion. Where you see a frantic effort, I see someone making something from nothing.
At the end of the day, clearly our Kickstarter has a ways to go if we're going to make it. That being said, I'm personally encouraged by the fact that none of your critiques are absolutely damning. In fact, I think we both agree that this is something worth going after, and despite what you call "pealing the bell of doom," I feel your comments may be sneaking in from a place of support .
So let's just say that you'll be hearing from me soon!
Sincerely,
Bryan

If nothing else, starting a kickstarter to run over Christmas time was pretty disastrous. I know schedules and reservations demand what they demand, but it's just about the worst time of year to ask people if they have spare pocket-money between travel, gifts, and all the other holiday expenses...

You can't possibly expect attending members of the size community (who are mostly creep lurkers like myself) to behave like civilized adults around objects of their desire. Maybe I give humanity too little credit, but as much as I'd hope to be proven wrong, I don't see that happening. That said, I certainly hope a large portion of the Kickstarter donations go towards hiring some incredible security for this event.

I do and can. Honestly, the kind of person with the disposable income to get there and the courage to show up kind of self-selects out most of the hopeless cases. And even some of the bad apples are far more cowardly IRL than over the internet even if they did show up with untoward intentions.
And yeah, they've got security hired for the rest.

Besides some minor grammar errors, everything seems to be in order! I don't mean to jinx our con into being another Dashcon, but have we considered getting a ball pit just for the lulz? XD

No. After Dashcon, ball pits are the dead canary of fandom mines.
