I'm not afraid of being alone~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Usually people put their daily deviation thanks and comments at the bottom... but I'm gonna do that right here. Big thanks to $Moonbeam13 for featuring it and being so considerate to me
Painting is such fun! This was done in around twenty hours (I think) over the course of a week. I used no references, which I am rather proud of. This concept was not carefully planned or slowly executed, unlike many of my other paintings, but I love how it turned out. This is one of those images that I think very well embodies my personal style and creative inclinations. I'd like to point out that this one is heavily inspired by *Sugarock99 , as well.
If you'd like to see the original sketch, it's here: [link]
Anyway, this is done in acrylic paint on canvas, 22x28 inches, and I used a matte medium and a matte varnish, as well. Mediums are like heaven...
© to myself, please don't redistribute it, but feel free to use it personally.
If you have any ideas as to which category this rightfully belongs in, please correct me!
And, as always, comments and critiques are totally sweet.
As a last note, her proportions may appear unrealistic, but I think it's a combination of illusions, as I did an anatomical sketch before I began.
I know I said that was a last note, but I also need to apologize for the grainy photo. Sorry.

I just accidentally destroyed the canvas copy of this painting! I'm in the process of replicating it at a larger size...

Yes, it was painted in Adobe Photoshop, lol.
Usually when people say "photoshopped," they mean photomanipulated, so I just had to check.

No, I used the paintbrush tool to paint it digitally from scratch. I only used the photo for reference.

this is really good, especially because u used no reference, which is in my opnion pretty hard to do. I also really like the mood!

Thank you! I'm working a lot without reference right now, specifically because it forces you to think a lot more about just about everything. Usually it's much harder, but I think its fun!

Seriously?! DD?! Good for you, man. And that was a compliment, so I expect you lay off the lashing insults for at least a week.
Also, does the title to pertain to MCR as I feel it does, or am I love drunk?

Thanks. I'll try to be nice.
No, the title does not pertain to MCR. But you can pretend it does if that makes you happier.

Thank you! Bravery, I think, is a theme too often stereotyped. Bravery can be alone...
I plan on making more for the rest of my life!

Oh, this is so gorgeous. I absolutely adore this piece, and I would be willing to spend great amounts of money to buy this. [Not making an offer here, just saying that's how much I love this. ;3 I'll let you keep your wonderful work to yourself and I can always view it on dA.]
I absolutely love the "floating but deep underwater" feel that this piece has. The dark tones of the blue and the semi-transparency of the gown/dress help enhance that even more. The light reflections on the sand and on the girl's legs are also wonderfully and masterfully done. The blacks used also give a sense of far continued space even though you cannot see that far into it.
The whole effect is so haunting and gorgeous.
Brilliant work! I adore seeing this. Thanks for uploading!

You're very perceptive! Haha, someone already offered to buy it but I turned them down because I love it on my wall .
Somehow this piece just came to me fully formed, so all that stuff that works together and sort of sets this painting apart from my others... I dunno where it came from. Can't take much credit lol.
Thanks for the wonderful comment.

Why thank you. Haha, that's awesome. I would totally keep that to myself if I were you. >;D
It's very nice when that happens. I am working on a painting right now that started out with three things- a dark street, a purple iris [flower], and a pool of blood..... yeah, creepy I know. And it's not turning out the greatest since I didn't start out knowing what I wanted to do with it.
You are very welcome.

I find that those sorts of unplanned pieces can turn out rather well, but usually, you get hung up on snags. I'd suggest doing like the pros do; sketch thumbnails, revise, sketch more, value study, quick colour scheme brainstorming, and THEN painting. I've never gone that in-depth before, but it seems to work great for everyone else.

Lion-Winterspirit In reply to SkarValidus [2011-04-09 18:12:19 +0000 UTC]
Haha! I do sketch and revise multiple times before I even get my paints out- and I've also been studying values and such. My paints are picked and everything.. so I guess we'll see how that goes. >;3
I usually paint with watercolors, though. This is the first time that I've done acrylics for quite awhile....
