Oh yes. I can imagine this happening straight on...More over form the book than from the movie. Bilbo seems rather more brave there (moviewise). He does get braver to the end of the book...but not so quick..and not so much. He was peaceful people, darn it...Why does so much people think of him as a short stocky typical hero with a brandished sword?
He was a quiet, homely guy...who was forcibly taken on a quest and had to manage keeping alive through it...not an orc slicing fighter...And I don't think that's bad for him...he's a nice character just the way he is.

Hi again, Is the Hobbit here, Frodo or Bilbo? I think my prior reply about Riddles in the Dark applys here too.
Good writing, It made me smile.
May I ask?
After all this time chatting with you...I always wondered. How did you get into The Lord of the Rings fandom? from tarp
π: 0 β©: 1
SkekLa In reply to tarpalsfan [2013-01-07 22:21:16 +0000 UTC]
Heehee, Bilbo...look at his nose, it's more "potato-shaped," and his nasal bridge is a little crooked...besides his cheeks are more "fallen" than those of Frodo's in my drawings... I'm happy you liked it! Oh yes, you may!...um...back When I was seven going on eight, the library in my home had many shelves (oh yes, it still has...), and the higher ones were reserved to those books which were too "complicated" or "unsuiting" for my age, so I wouldn't reach them. I always loved to read...and was always very curious too. I remember spying to the higher section, where a big red book with leather back was...I felt very attracted to it. One day I affined my sight, and could distiguish from down where I was, the letters in it's back, inked in golden ink. "The hobbit". I inmediately wondered what "a hobbit" was. I had to read it. I asked my mom for it, and she told me it was still too complicated a book for my age. I shrugged and said "okay", and pretended I would behave. Inmediately after that, I planned everything. I waited until "dinner cooking time"...and when she was busy at the kitchen, I silently piled some books on a stool, and used them to climb up there. I still did not reach, so I let go my footing and simply climbed up the shelves...and there it was!...My prize. I grabbed at it, but it was kinda stuck between the other books...and wouldn't come off...so I yanked and yanked until it popped out...but that made me lost balance, and I fell, book in hand, to land -luckily- on the couch nearby. Still the hit was a big one, and left me breathless. Mom heard the thump and came by to see what had happened...she found me half fainted by the blow, with the book tightly held on my arms. I had landed on my back to protect it. When she saw that, she gave, and I read it...well...after that, it simply went on and on. I read the trilogy, then other books by Tolkien...but those four (the hobbit and Lord of the rings) I could say, changed my life forever. Hahaha, long story, ain't it?... I hope I didn't bore you too much!

I think your drawing(s) of Bilbo are adorable. He looks like Bilbo, and not another Frodo or Sam.
.
I think I'd be attracted to a beautiful red bound book with gold letters too! I have always loved to read since I was really little too.
Not boring at all. I can see you doing it my imagination. I think that if Cat' would have ask to read The Hobbit at such a young age, I'd let try. She probably could, if not, I would have read it to her.
.
The Hobbit is a great book. It is well written, and worded so that a t'ween or teen could read it easly, (or a young gifted reader) yet the story is intreging(sp) enough for an adult to enjoy. The rest of the Trilogy though, seems more for the teen or adult reader. I read The Lord of the Rings books, I guess whe I was 12(the first time). They have more to absorb than Hobbit, and even seem to be written a bit differently.
Getting the wind knocked out of you is scary, it hapened to me once. It was hot as hell (Texas) and my brother, a friend, and I were playing with a water hose to cool off on my Grannys front porch. I was sitting under an old water cooler(like an air conditioner-but big) when I stood up, and bumped it. It fell on top of me. I got to get a ride in the ambulance for that one. Also not fun!
LOL!
.
The Books are a joy for me. They were an escape for me when I couldn't handle other kids bothering me anymore. Gasp! That 'crutch' you might say. Screw the asshole who came up with that sorry ass saying!
.
I like alot of things. Books, movies, nature.
Anyway, I enjoyed reading about how you became a fan of The Hobbit, Lord of the Rings! It is a wonderful story in itself!
Hugs from tarp

Aw thanks!...I try to differenciate hobbits well, since many people just "standarizes them" in a way I don't like much...
.
Ahh, so lucky I didn't send you to sleep with that ol' story!
Oh would you?...GOOD!...I really had to struggle for it!-and nearly kill myself over it*ahem-
.
HAHAHA YES!!!...It's funny how the trilogy got so much darker and seriouser!...Even seems written by somebody else in times! Β¬.Β¬
Ohhh so you know how THAT feels , eh?...not nice at all!...But for the pretty red book, we would do it again precious!
.
Oh yes!...Books ARE good crutches! I really understand you, there. Whenever somebody beat the crap outta me at school, I would hide under a staircase which had a small door -Which everyone seemed to assume sealed...but wasn't- and read there in the shadows. Luckily, I've got a very good night vision...so I could spend some time there and not get beaten!
.
Heehee thanks again
I love nature, movies, drawing and reading, as well!...AHHH I would kill now for a good walk in the forests!...We don't have any near here, in town!...SHEESH, Our landlords have killed everything around here T.T

You don't even have a little park to visit?
What kind of city doesn't have at least some green?
Sounds like Hell to me. I feel sorry for you, my friend. I wish you lived closer to what you love.
.
Beat the crap out of you? Me? I will not go into my school years. I will tell you though that I was suspended more than once for fighing. I was fortunate that I had a very caring family, and a Principal, and some great Coaches, and teachers that cared about me-those things mean alot to a tormented kid.
.
The story about about a young and curious you was charming. Thank you for sharing it.

Ah yes, me too...We have some parks round here but they're quite small (no more than two blocks wide) and with very few trees...and there we got enormous populations of bums. I don't want to demonize anyone, or disriminate them because I KNOW there are very good people amongst them, but most of the people who dares crossing the parks nearby get stolen and most likely hurt by them bums. I saw it happen many times, I'm not inventing it. They tend to have knives or cutting things like pieces of metal filed in points...and they just jump over you and try to get something good from your pockets while jabbing any sharp thing to your ribs. I've already been there...but I tend to fight back. And now I'm too old to dare anymore. U.U
.
Oh...I see. You've been there too.
I'm happy, neverthless, to know grown ups around you cared and acted against the bullies!...
I did, like you, get suspended and once almost kicked off the school for fighting back. That one time I really fought and hurt that kid alot. But he had choked me with a damn bike chain!...what was I supposed to do?...That time I nearly strangled the guy, and hit him alot. To think he was very much taller than me!
He's still have bitemarks from my teeth, in his arm and forehead. I had to go to therapy to recall what happened that day. I forgot it all the moment after it happened, and I found myself surrounded by screaming kids, not knowing why I was in the yard. Weird. They called it "violent emotion". I call it "I couldn't cope anymore". Imagine that happened after three years of being beaten by the same kids over and over every day!...
I had never really fought back until that day. And never did after...nobody bothered me anymore after that..but nobody talked to me either...so
My mom cared a lot for me...but couldn't do anything. I was there with a scholarship, so I shouldn't protest or I would be off school for my parents couldn't afford even school materials. sigh. My teachers were -sorry for this- quite stupìd, and seemed not to notice anyone being beaten or cursed in the middle of the class. And the bullied ones we were many...
What can I say?...SO GOOD IT'S OVER!
Now I've learned not to feel instantly afraid by strangers. I'm becoming more sociable and trusting with time, and learning to make friends -even now I'm learning, though I'm an adult-
Aaand...that's one of the reasons your friendship is so important to me!
I've crossed paths with few nice people in my life. I have only about five friends here, nearby...but they're more than enough and I love them!
And I have you and my watchers of D.A. to have and to hold precious!...
So you see, you're the sunshine of my life!
.
AWWW THANKS TO YOU FOR HEARING IT!...

That sounds aweful.
I guess that there are too many homeless desperate people living in those parks. Maybe people addicted to drugs, or people involved in gangs. Here, there are transiants that pass through, headed for bigger cities. There are alot of people on meth' in our area. They steal almost anything. Break into empty houses, even garages, ect. and strip them of copper wiring. To sell for thier addiction. In our local park, there might be a kid panhadling for quarters once in awhile. But the police send them off. There isn't alot of violent crime....though there was a murder a few weeks ago. A rare thing here. I wish that you lived in a nice safe place.
.
Once again,it sounds like you live in a Hellish place. I fought too. Got suspended a couple of times. I could tell you some aweful stuff. But, again, my parents, Granny and family made life worth living for me. And I did grow up, that part of my life was over. I still remember that nightmare sometimes-it is like shellshock! But it is over, and I am so happy that my daughter doesn't have to put up with the bullying that I did.
.
You're teachers knew what was going on. Shame on them for not doing anything for you, and other children suffering the same treatment.
.
We were sure as heck not rich people. Another reason to be targeted for bullying. I don't get it though. There was a very wealthy girl who I was friends with. She was odd, but rich. She got picked at too.
..
I still be careful around people. It is safer here than where I came from. But better be smart than sorry.
from tarp
Hugs a million and more from Kathy

Oh me too...but to be realistic..nowadays, my country is the same in all it's extension...sadly. Here, the kids begin sniffing shoemaker glue when they're around five yrs old...so what can I say of the grown ups?...Many of them, if asked, had a home and a family, and fled because they WANTED to get high and be left alone with it...I simply don't get it.
It makes me sad though...I wish there was something anybody could do for them.
.
That's exactly my point. The good part of that kind of stuff is when you wake up in the morning and see it's all over since years...ahhhh that's refreshing. And the better part is that now authorities are doing something so new generations don't have to suffer it.
I still do remember...and don't fancy it, course...but I'm happy that it's through!
.
I reckon they did know...but it's a mistery to me why didn't they do something!...
.
Oh yes. Poor means punchbag, apparently.
Hehe...I met now some rich ones who are friends with me...but we're grown ups and that makes a difference, I guess...
.
Definitely. I usually get named "too edgy" and "untrusting"...but hey, I preffer that first bad impresion I give to others than open myself to someone who could be a real danger...
. FOR YOU AND CAT!!!
