Hi there, everybody! ^^Here I am again with one new character chart for the canon skeksis!
This time´s about skekNa, the cruel, one-eyed Slave-Master of the skeksis castle!
This skeksis may be described as being "silently evil" and "evil right from the beginning" yet his role is very necessary to keep the Crystal castle life working: without him to herd about and command the podlings, none of the tasks assigned to the slaves would get done!
Expect more of these until all 9 are here, the Emperor may be tricky or end up looking "not-canon" tho, since his next canon appearance has not been revealed and I intend to draw him in a better state than his movie "agonising self"
I hope you´ll all enjoy these character charts featuring our "dear villains", the skeksis! ^^

You know it took me awhile to realize that skekna had a hook...😅

It can be hard to spot at first given how the movie has a wonderful dark sepia filter all through it. Many small details are virtually unnoticeable at first watch ^^
Na´s hand-hook may be one of those cases!

Haven`t watched the thing yet...I had been told he, the Treasurer and the General (Garthim Master, Ung) are not there...it's a pity! they're really charismatic, each in their own way (all skeksis are charismatic tho

Definitely a pity, more skekNa would have been good. Maybe it's because at this point, the Skeksis don't have slaves or Garthim. Ha, that they are, they have a certain charm to them alright. It's a great series though, definitely worth the watch.

There was a brief mentioning of SkekNa when the Skeksis are considering recalling the rest of their kind to the Castle. SkekUng is mentioned, as well.

To my knowledge, I think him and SkekTek the Scientist sided with SkekUng with his bid to claim the throne. Both of them were equally brutal and cruel as the Garthim Master.

Yes- those three were an allegiance since some time according to what Old canon said.
There had been three factions among skeksis:
The Garthim Master, Slave Master and Scientist// The Ritual Master, Scrollkeeper and Treasurer// The Chamberlain, Ornamentalist and Gourmand (these last three semed to be in the Emperor's grace during the last times of the skeksis rule, and thus belonged to his personal faction )

Yeah, though I noticed that the Ritual Master didn't seem to show as much ambition for the throne as SkekSil and SkekUng did.

Out of all the Skeksis art I have scene yours is by far the most accurate to the real things. You certainly have great attention to detail; I didn't even notice how SkekNa's Carapace seems to be made of many small bones (I'm guessing from Deceased Podling slaves). I had hoped in the film we saw just how SkekNa is the most evil out of his kind; though considering his role of Slave Master it might have made the film no longer family friendly.

For other drawings, comics etc, I might stylise some parts of their clothing or faces more, but at these charts I really did go for "as movie-accurate as possible" ^^
Indeed...it´s no wonder that Na would have a carapace built out of many tiny bones and metal...one wonders where did he get them from and what were they before becoming a part of their outfit...

Ooh yay! SkekNa's turn to get a character sheet!. and that sounds really believable that he may be using the hook just to look that extra but more fierce.
I always thought that his hand had been replaced by the hook, a bit like how SkekTek replaced his own body parts but I can imagine the hook having a wrist area that covers the hand. I mean what would look more scary, a hand with a missing finger or a sodding great hook claw!.

And yes, it does sound like Na to maybe be using the hook-hand just to imoress, doesn´t it?
Indeed, he really looks like he´s missing a hand, yet if you look at his Mystic, he only lacks one eye and a finger ona hand, not a whole hand at all...hence skekNa might really be hiding his hand within his hook´s glove , because as you said, a hook is way more impressive than just a replaced finger!

That's a creepy, evil, bastard. You did an excellent job of capturing this Skek's nasty personality. That black eye patch and gleaming hook claw do are great accesories to this wicked dude. He is smaller in stature than some of the other Skeksis, I think. I haven't seen The Dark Crystal in ages,though.

Skek-Na: "Uhhh....no? AHHH!!" (He screamed in pain as Sierra lashes out, and plucks his right eyeball out, causing him to fall to the floor screaming.)
Lady Despair: "My dear we are both light and shadow, to ignore one, or the other is to live forever in agony. But we must never indulge one side too much, or become consumed by it." *(She places the eye into a bottle she was holding, full of essence, and proceeds to walk away from writhing Skek-Na.)*

That theory might be canon, given how skekNa´s mystic half looks: his UrRu (UrNol, the Herbalist) has an eyepatch just like skekNa, yet- in straight contrast to him- he still has his four hands. only his left hand is missing the middle finger: hence why I suspect skekNa might be hiding a mutilated hand within his hooked-hand- glove
SkekNa is indeed one of the shortest skeksis( along with skekOk) and belonging to the same allegiance as skekUng -who is indeed regarded as the most physically powerful* other than the old Emperor when he was younger* he must probably feel insecure and try to become as impressive as possible through any attainable means (the eyepatch already gives him an extra vicious air, and the hook adds a lot to it! thus, a minor and disfiguring injury becomes "impressive battle damage" for his looks
