So um.. I was practicing how to draw Dexter in his cannon style and this lil guy kinda happen. I guess this is Dexter at age 11?Got to say, I oddly find it really complicated to make an image with such a simple style look interesting. Also doing really clean lines is really frigging hard. Props to those that pull it off flawlessly.

I'm actually not a terribly big fan of the show's canon style. I mean, it has its highlights, but according to what I learned recently, Dexter apparently was designed with regards to ease of animation, more than for aesthetics alone, and while I can understand that, it kind of bothers me.
Also Dexter and Deedee originally spawned from an animated short that Genndy Tartakovsky did for his school (CalArts, I think?), where they were originally named Dartmouth and Daisy. While I like the name Dartmouth, I can't help but feel like the poor kid dodged a bullet, there.
That said... this is pretty cute, actually. It looks a little nicer than the show itself, I think. Probably because it's a lot cleaner than something that first came out more than twenty years ago... It looks like something that might be utilized in a special or reboot of some sort. (While I am open to the idea, reboots of other properties in recent history give me a great deal of pause...)

Yes!!! I couldn't agree more, my sister and I always loved this show. They rebooted PPG, so it might actually be a possibility that Dexter's Lab could be rebooted too, if enough people started asking for it

I remember thinking Dexter looked freakily squashed (and he was) when I watched the show as a kid. I knew it was just cartoon style, but I couldn't help being weirded out. You make him look good, and not painfully squashed. He looks pretty cool too.
But look at me still talking when there's science to do...
