Jeu 'The Game Master'

Ex Cult member out for revenge and self improvement.

Personality: Variation of Neutral Evil: Out for herself but has standards. Follows the rules for rules sake but really doesn’t care if anyone else does unless she’s in charge of enforcing them. If she lacks respect for a rule or those who imposed them, however, you can kiss her law abiding ways goodbye, and she’ll do as she likes. Doesn’t give biased thought to those around her unless they go directly against her own ideals. Respects that others have differing beliefs and isn’t going to waste the time to convince them to her view, but she won’t accept theirs without viable concrete proof. Is neither malicious nor benevolent, and any results from her actions that lean towards either category most likely don’t concern her.

+  Patient, Witty, Intelligent, Highly Observant

= Strategic, Calculating, Impassive, Curious, Confident

- Aloof, Cold, Self-Serving, Aggressively Competitive, Blunt

Outside of strategy and logic, Jeu’s not great to talk to, unless you somehow managed to get close to her. Even then, her words are quiet and few, but meaningful, and she certainly knows how to speak. In reality, Jeu is incredibly shy, and prefers to be left alone unless she approaches you herself. She’s cordial enough, but monotone.

She’s no white knight by any means, so don’t expect her to rush to your aid unless she has a good reason. Once Jeu’s involved in something, however, you will be very, VERY hard pressed to get her out of it if you’re an opposing party. Jeu is not easily intimidated.

Jeu isn’t an emotionless husk, however. Her personality shows most when she’s playing games. She is competitive to a fault, and will stop at nothing to win, outside of breaking the rules. Cheating is intolerable, so you will never, EVER catch her doing so. If you don’t make your rules explicitly clear, however, she’ll work with them as she pleases. And if YOU cheat in a competition against her, she’s merciless. Above all, Jeu is fair. She’s not fond of backstabbing and deceitful methods of victory. If she wins, it will be indisputable.

Winning is one of the few things that will elicit outright glee from Jeu. She considers games and anything that falls under the category to be her domain, so proving her skill always makes her day. If she loses, she’s overcome with shock and then extreme outrage. She’s not out to win every competition though. Jeu has no chance in a physical contest, so she won’t even bother with those.

Abilities: Jeu’s theme is games, with her main motif being Chess. Her spells are represented by the type and color of the chess piece that manifests on the platform at the end of her wand, which morphs from the eye at its tip. She works with ‘light’ and ‘dark’ magic, as per her neutral nature, but uses the Black pieces more often. In general, White pieces work faster than Black Pieces, in reference to White moving first in a Chess match. It’s faster for her to defend/heal herself than it is to attack, but for the end goal, it’s more effective to use slower Black spells that do damage. The type of piece dictates how strong the spell is along with its function.

Jeu’s spells require different levels of magic to function. Initially she can cast spells in quick succession, and larger spells take less time to cast. The longer a battle goes on for, however, the longer casting takes, leaving Jeu increasingly vulnerable. Her main strategy is to avoid direct attacks and use repeated smaller attacks to whittle down an opponent enough so she can properly charge for a final blow.

A passive ability is levitation. Jeu can levitate at will up to 4 feet off the ground. Originally, before she received her prosthetic legs, this was how Jeu got around. Now that she can walk, her levitating abilities are used as a backup in case her legs are damaged or if she’s in a very big hurry. She moves faster when floating, and can do so indefinitely without a cost to her energy. However, if her stamina is too low, she has difficulty maintaining her height, and will eventually be unable to lift herself without proper rest.

Weaknesses: Jeu’s power lies in her magic abilities, not her body strength. Physical attacks are your best bet, as she’s no amateur witch and isn’t a pushover in a battle of spells and wits. She’s physically as weak as your average human, and her stamina can be gauged by the flames on the rim of her hat. If she uses too much magic, she will find it hard to move, limiting her mobility. Since Jeu’s ability to use magic degrades over the course of a fight, she must pick and choose her spells carefully. Using the White King Spell means she cannot cast the Black King spell for the rest of the battle unless she’s been given ample time to recover her magic, and vice versa. Choosing to attack or defend could be the difference between a win and a loss (or life and death) for Jeu.

Jeu is also confident to the point that, in a test of strategy and intelligence, she doesn’t think she can lose unless she’s recognized you as a worthy opponent. Her own faith in her skill can be used against her, as she can underestimate her foes depending on their behavior.

The closer Jeu is to losing, the more desperate she will become. This is a double edged sword, as she’ll up the aggression, increasing the damage her spells cause, but at the cost of more energy. She will fade much faster than if she were focusing on conserving her strength to her advantage. At this stage, her goal is to end the battle and end it quickly.

Small Backstory Blerb: Jeu was once a normal human, but due to tragic circumstances and dash of deception, she lost her legs and was brought into a supernatural cult. She resigned herself to her new life and responsibilities, but internal tensions within the group rose to an uncontrollable level. Eventually one of the cult leaders revolted, causing a rift within the organization. The ensuing civil war left the cult and the mansion it called home in shambles. Order was temporarily restored, but the damage had been done. Unable to properly regain full control of the cult and deal with the dissent caused by the war, the cult leaders vanished, abandoning the group to its own devices. All but a very small few fled the area to try and make new lives for themselves, but Jeu had nowhere to go and no means to escape her predicament. Determined to make the best of things and to reclaim something to compensate for all the cult had taken from her, Jeu took up residence in the abandoned mansion, intent on rising above her situation. The magic that once kept the house running had shut down when the leaders and the other cult members departed, but Jeu's renewed presence jump started things, allowing the house to slowly but surely repair itself. Things aren't looking very good for Jeu's future there, however, so she's taken the risk of leaving the place in the hands of the automated servants that work there to enter Wizard Palooza to see if she can find a better way to achieve her goals.

Goal for entering the Tournament: Jeu hasn’t participated in a proper competition in quite a long time. She’s bored and very eager for something to do. Not only that, but with a prize that can be quite literally anything she wishes, her incentive to participate is doubled.

Mostly, Jeu just hates to lose, and that’s all she needs to try and get that wish. She hasn’t settled on what she’ll do with it yet. Little does she know that her participation in this tournament has set a very dangerous game in motion,  both for herself and the rest of the contestants…
