A picture that came to mind when I wondered if maybe Gaster started doing questionable stuff because he was desperate to save his sick skeleson?((Also gave me an opportunity to practice drawing sleletons. I hope this looks right.))

Oh my... That thought is heartbreaking....
I was actually thinking more along the lines of Gaster doing soul research and experimenting on Sans directly to make him stronger, indirectly resulting in the karmic retribution thing and the blasters. I suppose Papyrus would make more sense, but.... the very thought... ;_;

Aaaaah both are so sad ;~; If it's just Sans he's experimenting on, then he's having to decide how much pain is worth keeping him alive. But if he made Papyrus to experiment on, then he's got to keep his emotions in check and try not to get attached while not letting that affect how he sees Sans...AUGH WHY.

Hooo boy. I think hurting one of his children to benefit the other is about the biggest moral dilemma anyone could face. If it's just Sans, at least he'd know his brother isn't suffering for him! Now that'd be depressing. It would also make Gaster a lot darker as a character if he made Papyrus for such a purpose.
There HAS to be an AU or two exploring these possibilities.
