Description So this is a digital painting I did for Illustration Friday's topic this week "stripes." It was a lot of fun and I probably spent 6-8 hours or so on it and I just had fun the whole time.
It was just a sketch last night and then I pushed it to a more resolved state this evening because I was sick of not having anything new that's interesting.

I'm curious to know what you guys think of it considering a lot of my more recent work has been in the more fantastic realm.

Thanks for looking.

Very nicely painted. I like the implied story that her bandage and socks tell

This is amazing. I love how real Β this is.. not in the way that it looks realistic, but also in the way that it's.. it FEELS real.. like .. i can imagine being that girl, shifting my weight on one foot, and pulling up my socks. I feel like it's a sensational story with depth. I feel like she's alive, and that i can relate to her in some sort of war that's similar to relating to a character in narration.Β

Very amazing!

I really love her outfit. it looks really comfy ^-^"
have to say she reminds me of me. a bit late for soccer looking at the clock. knee scare, never really know were they all come from.

I really like how you make it look so everyday like. like it's taken out of a moment. not like posed up, but you can imagine it.
and the sporty flare. like there is a mean to them. don't know this comment might seem silly >-<" (I also mean the same things about a lot of the other pieces.)

I really appreciate this comment! A bunch of people have been describing these girls as "comfy" lately and I think that's excellent because I really try to make them feel at home in their environment. They are, after all, in their own bedrooms so they should feel relaxed!
I don't know girls' bedrooms all that well so I just try to do a lot of "set dressing" with things that I feel like need to be there. I also like to paint a lot of my girlfriend's things into these images because I feel like they add some realism too. Β
Thanks for the wonderful comment.

It's obvious right from the get-go that you're one of those artists where I want to favorite EVERY single one of your pieces. The only reason I don't is because I wanna keep my collection diversified LOL! You're on my watchlist now and I'm following you from here on out.

I love this one by the way. I'm a sports guy and this girl has that sporty, tomboy-ish charm that comes out immediately and reels me in. There's something about your style that gives me this "classic" feel. I can't describe it. It's like I could have found your images in some old book of some sort. Strange comment, I know, but trust me, it's all complimentary. You're an incredible talent.

Aww man. You're too much. Thanks for the kindness, you've made my day.

Actually that strange comment you're describing is probably the best compliment I could possibly receive. In so many ways I get a lot more inspiration from artists of previous generations than I do from a lot of contemporaries. There's an amazing amount of talent out there today, but things just looked different 50 or 60 years ago and I can't get enough of that look. Thanks for commenting, I really appreciate it.

well, it's like everyone of your paintings tells a story, and it's our job to figure out what it is.

well... let's see. based on what she's doing at the moment, she seems to be getting ready for something like going out with friends. however, her shorts says otherwise, like she's some sort of jogger, but the socks contradicts that, who would wear those just to jog, specially white one, with all the sweat and everything. so that can't be it either.Β

so to my conclusion, she must be getting ready for school and is not quite ready.

IDK, you're gonna have to tell me.

Hey Blink, thank you for the comment! I appreciate you digging into the narrative of this one. I hope it's not a let down to say that I didn't have a specific narrative in mind. A lot of things go through your head as you're painting and so my approach has been just to keep adding additional props and information that feels like it belongs until I've kind of decorated the composition!Β

I like to imagine that she runs a lot and yesterday she took a nasty spill and is just wearing socks today to cover up the band-aids.Β

I used to think it was a cop out to just say that it's purposefully ambiguous so that you can see whatever you want in an image, but now I think I just like to paint characters that hopefully feel like real people enough that when you see them you think of someone you know or an experience you had, and you can project that onto the image, making it a little more personal and relate-able.Β

What a great little moment you've portrayed here...I love the way her hair hangs in front of her face.

It's funny how you can paint a whole painting, but it's only like 5% of it that actually matters. The hair is definitely one of the moments I enjoy most, I'm glad you do too!

great! it conveys the sesnation of the move, including the right amount of tension, and, at the same time, the diffuse light in the back gives the peaceful feeling of something nice approaching in a sgort time. the colours are perfect, the brushing fitting with the subject...
maybe i used to many words, to repeat what i already said by my first word here!
