It looks much better in these pics than in real life i'm afraid, it was the 2nd cosplay prop i ever made and now looking back at it now I would make it differently.
But anyways, ask away

I want to make a gun/cannon like thing.. What materials would you use to make it look.. Metallic?

I'd say for the barrel of the gun/canon use plastic plumbing pipes as you can get them in many different sizes and also check out the plastic pvc plumbing attachments section at your local DIY store as you can find some fantastic pieces that make for great detail such as a Scope etc, and also if you want it to look industrial look at sticking nuts and bolts or rivets for the detail.
When it comes to painting it depends on what sort of look you wanna go for.
For my Gunblade I give it a base coat of black spray paint, spray it a all a light silver, then spray parts with a darker silver, then go over those parts ever so lightly with the lighter silver again to blend it in a little bit, then get the black spray paint and hold it quite far away lightly spray it so its like a mist on certain areas.
This basically gives the entire thing tonal variance so its just not one metallic shade all the way along and so makes it look used and a little more realistic.
For my M-98 Widow rifle, i wanted it to look as realistic as possible so when it came to the barrel i sprayed it mat black then once dried i rubbed some graphite shavings/powder onto it with a paper towel, then rubbed it down with another paper towel to take some of it off so it doesn't come off as much on your hand if you touch it.
By doing it this way it gives the barrel a much more duller look but still gives it that metallic gun-metal sheen in the light.
Hope this is of some help

I tend to go to my local Halfords store and just buy the spray paint there as they have quite a large selection of colour's and metallic's, and it the prices are quite reasonable
