Description
A portrait I did of Zelda from Twilight Princess back in May. It's meant to be part of a three part group. I'm sure you can guess the other two, which are comingI'm not sure that the colour is coming out very nicely, feels a little dingy. I don't want it to be super vibrant though, any comments on the overall colour would be much appreciated. And comments and Crits more than welcome. :}
I'm excited for Skyward Sword! Are you?

The royal sword. This type of sword's blade is made for direct stabs and ceremonies. Like knighting.

Sometimes my sister wished that this Zelda to be the only one of the three in "Twilight Princess" that doesn't have her own sword at all...and why? Two reasons...1, because Ganondorf ruined everything...2, because this stupid sword doesn't have a specific name, so you either presume that Zelda actually barrow it from the guard room or could've call it 'Ganon's Puppet Sword' when every time Ganon possessing someone (I mean 'anyone', not just Zelda) they just end up armed with this very sword, same thing should've happen to Cia when she too was possessed by the same man! I mean, Zelda carrying around this sword only for show-off and decoration, while she can wield it when Ganon possesses her, she's been treated like nothing but a butt-monkey to the other two (as well as to Midna and Zant), a hypocritical coward, a helpless loser idiot, a pathetic weakling and a poor excuse for 'heart-broken bad-ass' who looks as if nobody have teach her how to fight to begin with, just because she's a female and females of royal families in medieval times are not allowed to fight with swords, for cry out loud! What a waste.

I think I remember looking it up before but from what I can remember it doesn't have a specific name and is usually just referred to as Zelda's Sword.

The detail is lovely, nice work capturing different textures of her clothes and skin. The colours work well with this piece, neither too dull nor too vibrant!

Nice work on the design of the outfit that Zelda is wearing. I especially like how you did the posing of the sword that she's holding in her left hand. You coloured her really well!

This is beautiful! You captured Zelda's elegance so wonderfully it's amazing! The detail on this are simply incredible--from her armor to her dress, nothing is out of place. I really love the beautiful design of this, along with the "almost realism" style you went for. It certainly captures that cartoon look Zelda has always had with the detail of Twilight Princess. I also really love the glow and the shower of sparks above her. Personally, I think the colors look fine, especially the gold. If you're really worried about it, I would suggest maybe making her hair more like a dirty blonde like it was in the game, instead of the brown her Brawl design used. Regardless, this looks amazing! You can count on me of buying a print at Otakon

This is a beautiful portrait; your coloring is very smooth and crisp, which gives the entire picture a polished look that suits her regality. You did a great job capturing a demeanor of confidence and grace in her expression and attitude.
Because you specifically asked for comments on the colors, I will say that there are a couple of things that could be changed to make this more dynamic. First, while the tone in the picture is generally good, the color of the gold armor is too close in tone to the color of her skin; this is most apparent in the sword being held against her chest, where the lightest part of the hilt could almost blend in with her skin if it weren't a slightly different hue. Second, most of the picture uses gray shading (with some exceptions, like the blue backlight and the red youβve used to shade her cheek and earβwhich look really nice), and gray does usually make colors look dingy. The best way to bring out colors is to use other colors; try shading with different hues instead of a darker version of the base color. It also helps unify an image when colors are found throughout the picture instead of in just one place; for example, her dress is the only purple part of the picture and her hair is the only brown part, which isolates both colors in the overall color βthemeβ. You could have her gold armor reflecting some of that purple or use a similar purple to shade the lighter parts of her clothing; you could give her hair a bit of reddish shading like you did with the face; you could do almost anything to spread the colors around the image so that it has a more consistent theme. It helps a lot to decide on a color palette before you start working, and stick to using variations of those colors.
Now I'm not the most accomplished artist myself, but I've been trying to learn more about color lately, and it's an interesting subject to talk about. This is still a very nice and clean portrait on its own, and she does look gorgeous.

i'm sure a lot of people are put off by it, but i find it interesting that zelda isn't royalty, but link's friend in this game. and her design is so cute
