              Rhysand sighed as he tugged at the blessedly patient rattle cattle’s udder. Bazzy had been all worried ever since news of the pelt prowler got around town. Honestly, Rhys couldn’t blame him. He knew that he’d been acting off ever since he got back, but he couldn’t help it. Knowing that thing was still out there, that it could hurt them…

              Wynsiph wasn’t safe. It never was.

              “You’re doing it again, love.” Bazzy’s concerned voice cut through his thoughts. “I getcha if you don’t want to talk yet. But seeing you get in your head like that is more concerning than a twister at nightfall.”

              Rhys turned back to the rattle cattle, the bucket at his feet nearly full. “It’s alright, Baz. We’re gonna get the money to get the circus on the road and things’ll be normal.”

              “You say as you talk about leaving Wynsiph.” Bazzy laughed despite himself, “It’ll be grand though. Of course Wynsiph will be our main base of operation, but think of all the places we could bring smiles to! Cressport, Last Notch, by golly we could take the show to Antova one day with the right mindset!”

              Bazzy’s enthusiasm for the future brought a smile to Rhys’ lips, just as it had when they were young. “We’re gonna need more performers.”

              “Absolutely! And who better to help me scout them out than my number one man!” Bazzy elbowed Rhys in the shoulder and prompted the other gro to ruffle his hair.

              “We need the money to pay them first, ringadot.” Rhys chided goodnaturedly, “Why do you think I’m here milking this fine lady?”

              He could have sworn Daisy mooed in appreciation.

              “Right right, I haven’t forgotten that easily.” Bazzy gave Rhys a gentle boop, his golden eyes shimmering with kindness and love, “I meant what I said earlier though. If you want to talk about what happened, my ears are always long and available.”

              Rhys sighed softly and leaned into Bazzy’s touch. “Not yet. But I’ll remember for later.”
