Acchi stared up at Shelly with huge eyes, not sure what to do. Was she next? Was she just taking out whatever threatened her? Had she been digging around in her garbage and she wanted to punish her? Her thoughts were a torrent as Shelly kneeled before her. She was covered in huge scars, to the point that one of her eyes was sealed shut.

"Hey, that was pretty scary. You okay kiddo?" Shelly asked gently.

Acchi forced words, any words to come through her throat, and finally managed to grind out. "Your eye. You look rough."

"You don't look much better. How long have you been out here?"

Something inside Acchi began to bubble with that question. Too long, she'd been out here too long. She was hungry, and cold, and...

Scared. She was scared.

Something hot streamed down her cheeks and her breath came out first in hiccups before slowly building to desperate sobs. Shelly looked stunned, even in her hardest moments nobody had ever seen the wild child cry. But here she was before her, weak and cracking and just broken.

Shelly picked her up and hugged her close, bracing herself for a flurry of claws. Her heart twinged for Acchi when she felt none, just her tears dampening her shoulders and too-thin arms looping around her neck. She realized quickly that she was probably the first person who Acchi had let go around in a long time, if ever.

"It's okay lass, I've got you. Lets get you something to eat, yeah? You look like you could use a nice thick puckoo steak. How does that sound?" Shelly tried to soothe her.

Acchi hiccuped and gripped her tighter, burying her face in her hair. Shelly took that as a yes, standing and walking out of the dirty, dingy alleyway.

I think this is the first time that I've drawn Acchi with an expression that isn't 'pissed at the world', that there is an accomplishment. Oh and she's acquired one (1) trusted adult, huzzah!
