Description
Rhysand liked to consider himself tough. He didn't let what everyone else considered a disability, a curse in some ways, get him down. He lived his life normally, if not fearlessly, defying any and all expectations. Unfortunately, he did have a condition, and his condition tended to catch up with him occasionally. He woke that morning and new it was not going to be a good day. Shocks were zipping along his spine, his limbs feeling like they were weighed down with stone. He felt a cold sweat, a product of the persistent pain, coating his body.
Dr. F called them 'flare ups'.
Rhys stayed on his bed, he wasn't going to be able to move well today and his stomach clenched at the idea of food, so breakfast was out of the question. His roommates would notice, but as far as he knew, they had learned to ignore him. Alma might find him, but he wasn't going to go calling for her. Not like there was anything she could do. All he really could do was wait it out. He wasn't being pessimistic, it's just... how it was.
So he laid there quietly, his claws knitted into the sheets as he rode out the little waves of pain that seemed to hit one vertebrae at a time.

A bit of explanation regarding the title. A common metaphor that people with chronic pain use is the idea of having a set amount of spoons that they can use on various tasks. A spoon goes can go towards something as big as working out or running errands or as small as just getting out of bed that morning. People with chronic pain wake up with an amount of spoons everyday (the number of which isn't always the same) and have to choose what to spend them all on before they have to rest their body without completely giving out. Sometimes you wake up with as little as two, or one, or even no spoons. Rhysand has days where he'll wake up with no spoons, such as this one.
All that info comes from what I've learned from my mother, who suffers from chronic pain and has for the majority of my life. I know this doesn't apply to everyone, but I hope I explained the concept accurately!
(side note this boyo needs some friends so if ya wanna draw your kid doing anything with rhys just shoot me a comment please!)
