I also like the use of the extra material that Tolkien himself added to the story in the Appendices, it just let's the movie feel more nerdy and it helps that Jackson didn't just make shit up.
Okay, the Warg chase didn't happen in the book, but I didn't mind that, besides, the Warg chase in The Two Towers didn't happen in that book either, and I still really liked that scene.
I also loved Azog, he's just so intimidating and badass, even though in the Appendices, he's supposed to have been killed by Dain Ironfoot at the Moria Gate before the battle of Azanulbizar, but it just allows us to see just how badass and threatening he was. The only change I admit, I don't really care for is that Peter chose to make Sting unique by having it be the only blade that glows when Orcs or Goblins are close, but again, it's just a nit-pick.
Speaking of the Goblins,a lot of people didn't like the way they were done mostly in CGI, I honestly didn't mind it as much, but it would have been nice to have the old prosthetic make-up from LOTR, but again, I'm nit-picking. The movie was brilliant and I am greatly looking forward to parts two and three.
