Since you're basically family, your comment means a lot to me. My dad was always your dad too.

That made me cry...

What are your commission rates for portraits?

Skyejcb In reply to Illahie [2008-02-18 13:10:06 +0000 UTC]

For a piece like this, I would usually charge per face in the portrait. Each usually takes me about 8 hours to complete. However, a single-face portrait (taking 8 hours) would run about $80-100 depending on any extra information that would be desired in the portrait. The rate increases with the addition of multiple people.

A great portrait. You've captured a wonderful moment, and expressed a great heartfelt emotional feeling. Subtle colors speak volumes; I love the hands and your nephew's eyes, and your father's half-smirk.

One you can be proud of, Jen.

Thanks Ash
It's been so long since I worked regularly with traditional mediums that I'm having to re-learn some things, including the subtle use of color. These past two portraits have reminded me what it is to use a very light hand to apply multiple layers of color and visual texture.

I hope to improve significantly this year, and have already planned out a couple of new portraits to work on over the next months.

I've been lazy far too long.

As long as you're enjoying it, that's what counts. The ultimate goal of art is to bring happiness to the artist... everything else is secondary. Even commissions and regular commercial art aren't really for the customer, but should be for the artist first. Anything less is insincere.

You've done well with your new works you've displayed so far. I'm looking forward to seeing more of what makes you happy.
