agreed. the best one i ever did (literly considering all things) was that one with chain and rihanna on it, dog was going downstream and chain was holding on a pole or something.

This is almost exactly what I do, except I do it in Gimp instead of Photoshop. Still nice to know I must be doing something right!

I was looking at your work after your commented and really it's not as bad as you claim. I can see that you've god all the basics down and have a good idea of how structure works (something a lot of people struggle with), you need to develop you work more and needs to have a bit more flow. Don't sell yourself short because we are all learning.....what's what we are here to do.
Say I didn't know you could use that same method in Gimp (never used gimp)

Wow, thanks for taking the time to give me some feedback! I really appreciate it!!
And yeah I use Gimp, "the poor man's photoshop", it works well for what I do, though

If you want you can get the pre-release version of photoshop CS5 floating around the net under the name of "Adobe White Rabbit", I highly recommend getting it. Also that's okay, I often try to give my watchers and commenters as much of my attention as I can to be honest with you. I mean it's only fair, right?

Doing this right now. GAH, I wish I could do it like you can. I can't seem to get the effect shown in your tutorial. Perhaps my lines are too thin? I'll keep trying

Haha I kinda made it myself while tweaking around with settings, it's aided my artwork greatly, I hope it serves well for you as well.

It's the kind of thing i was looking for, i like to avoid pen tooling as much as possible XD traditional lineart just has this charm to it.

I absolutely agree, I felt my work was looking a lot in translation when using Illustrator for the lineart

That's almost the same way as I do, except that I always scan my works inked and I don't play with the "color range".
But I'll try to do it your way, and see if it would make a difference!
P.S.
Actually, I just asked that question because I want to know how professional artists do their lineart. And yes, I think you're a professional artist!

You really do flatter my with the professional thing, though I do think you over state my stills as I do still struggle with perspective and fine details. I think in the grand scheme of things many artists are just looking for what works for them best, initially I would hand ink everything, this is the method I'd used in the early days in DA way back 6 years ago, with a decline in the steadiness of my hands they just got too shaky to keep that up (note for a long time at that point I didn't know how to use layers). After that I shifted to going over lines in Illustrator which I stayed with for years, that didn't go too bad but in the end much of the personalty of the original sketch was getting sapped out, and this year I started using this one. I got the idea from Disney during the 60's to the 80's where they would used xeroxed copys of the original sketches as the cell art and just paint the colours in. This technique worst far more interestingly when using you original greyled sketch, I've found it's aided my artwork greatly.

Colour Ranger is essentially more for when going it in with greyled sketches (like I do) if hand inked you can usually skip that by setting it as Black and White

Yeah, visibility related to sinus problems, kinda make it hard. I'll have to spend some time fixing that up. In hind site it might have been smarter to have waited till I was better

Slainmonkey In reply to totallynothere [2010-07-27 11:52:03 +0000 UTC]
Yeah I think it would be interesting as everyone sketches are indeed different and as so there might be a variety of different yet equally interesting results. So far I'm the only person I know of to have discovered this technique so I can't really say how well it does or doesn't work for other artists but I think it's done wonders on mine.

Oh I agree, I used a similar but more primitive variation on this back in 2006 and 2007 in my horror themed pics in which I would use them to delete the white out of the image. There were a lot more limitation in how I did that though but that's kinda how this technique came to be.
