Description
been working on this guy for 2 days straight now, looks pretty goodi've been bouncing between mediums in attempts to find a material that was both inert, but could retain shape, and yet be flexible in application. this quest lead me to Magic Sculp (a two part resin epoxy that uses water to smooth the medium [low stink]), and the other was Cheese-Wax (which was inert and flexible.) however i ran into another problem, which was lack of diverse PC joints.
what lead me back to C4D was finding 3D printing services online, that would print out your design for a fee, and all you had to do was make your design in 3D (and converted into CAD tools [from what i recall].) this offered immense flexibility and cut my work time into a mere fraction. best yet, i could pick out the PC joints from any manufacturer and render them in C4D for fitting, thus eliminating my dependance on physically needing the PC caps to finish the kit.
once i get the figure from the printing company, i'll ship it off to Hobbyfan for mass production; since Hobbyfan is well known in the mecha-hobby community and is well respected.
no, there won't be an inner frame, as i'm pressed for time, but in the future it will sport one as a separate kit (since some don't like paying more for an inner frame.) future releases include armor upgrades and weapon accessories, and you will get your choice between the colors: Brown (G-Host), SWAT (blue), Arctic (white) Ace (red), and Marsh (green) -assuming i can afford this many variations.
the kit will be complete with a manual with the technical info of the suit, it's history and it's role in the Brim Star story.
and fear not, i'll will do my best to make sure that the kits are affordable since the economy is hurting.
all i ask right now is lots of support, because lately my depression has been coming around more frequently and getting the better of my artistic side, and i can't have that.

Squint squint. Do you have a higher resolution version?

Still waiting to hear if this design ever made it to production. I would still be very interested in owning my own model of this suit.

mind you, the prototype is incomplete. I have a leg ready to be recasted, and a fairly decent mockup of the entire torso(with skirt)waiting to sculpted. But it all takes time that I can't give at the moment.

Well, even if I have to wait for it, I guess that's okay. So long as we do get to see this in model form at some point. I personally think it's one of the coolest mech designs I've seen. So, just keep focusing on what you need to do for now, but don't forget about us either.

Can't wait to hear more on this, the design is amazing. I would love to own a kit of this suit. Gotta say I'm interested to see what sorts of weapons you'd have for it also. I think it'd be awesome to see some option parts designed for high-speed close to mid range combat. Keep us informed on the progress of this project. Also looking forward to reading the story.

Thank you for taking interest . Sadly I havent worked on it in quite some time, though I REALLY should. If ya'll HOUND me enough I can ;D (*HINT HINT) Lately I've been working in game design everyday for a month, so I really haven't been paying much attention to my mecha.
Yes, there will be weapon and armor upgrade packs available independently from the Figure-kit, each pack coming with different weapons.
Future upgrades include:
*Stealth armor (sleeker design, gloss black [or Matt, haven't decided which, may do both.)
*Heavy armor: Features forward shoulder spikes, and added armor, plus a 75mm equivalent revolver; essentially a 128mm cap.
*Air assault: Will have the Missile packs on the shoulders from the drawing, as well as on the rear skirt.
*Energy Asborber: features a gun similar to the Seravee gundams Twin rifle, but cannot split in two, but can absorb most beams, and fire them forward or backward, as well a create a high-output beam sword. Most beam weapons are used last after a suit has sustained enough damaged because of the special kind of generators that power the suits; and mainly cause if EVERYTHING is beam, then it's really cheesy... like Gundam Seed/Destiny.

I was actually thinking that the design would look really cool with a couple of high output thrusters, like the Aile Strike or the Sinanju, and some solid blades like the ones on the Astray Blue Frame Second L. Of course not exactly like those examples, but the same concept. Honestly if the Voltaire had those equipment and a red and white color scheme it would be my ideal dream mech.

this badboy's going to be a model kit?
I WANTS!
Wanna see some weaponry too, your design influence would look sick on some weaponry.

it will come with a few weapons, but the other arsenal will be available through add-on kits so all you need to do is buy the mech once, so you can buy the upgrades individually.

This is stunning work here! I would definitely buy one of these if you printed this in 3D models.

Very nice work, can't wait to see the finished model. Assuming the arms are supposed to be connected.

looks like it could be some type of body armor. mind if i put it in my faves and use it as referance for my project. only with your permition.

sledgeviper In reply to dropskillz [2011-03-09 00:45:48 +0000 UTC]
it's actually a 70ft mechanical suit, i think what your referring to is called power armor (like exosquad, and appleseed, Ghost in the shell.)
i'll grant you permission, but be sure not to use too much from the design; as i'll be checking up on your progress from time to time.
specifically, what do you need for reference?

yea. what i'm trying to acomplish is a mechanical suit like the one in the movie area 9 i think it was called. more mecha like though.

lol, District 9.
yea, i think that's power armor... similar to the ones in the 3rd matrix movie. basically it's Western Mecha. i'm purely Eastern Mecha.

i want a eastern mecha design with a western mecha concept.

sledgeviper In reply to dropskillz [2011-03-09 02:14:15 +0000 UTC]
that's definitely do-able. but i'd study both for the integration, as both differ greatly, and to pull it off you'll need knowledge of both.
eastern mecha use different body proportioning (ie uber long legs, short waist) while western mecha treats the suit like an actual machine: limited, sluggish, less fancy exterior design. MechWarrior is a prime example of western mecha.
there are many types of Eastern Mecha: Real Robot (R-R), and Super Robot (S-R). the key difference between the two is that R-Rs can have mechanical failures, they often don't have a mind of their own (there are exceptions), and they're more cubic, or military. S-Rs came before R-Rs, and are basically near perfect technological marvels. S-Rs like Mazigner, Getter Robo, Transformers. S-Rs are usually have a human face while R-Rs look purely mechanical.
to get the exterior look you want, i'd study the designs from the Gundam series. they're not too complex (here and there) and they're easier to study than Zoids, or Mortar Headds (my Marionettes.) here, go to Mahq.net, and gearsonline.net to study the designs. study long, study hard, study in complacency, look for ANY kind of pattern that you see, even if your think your pulling stuff out of your ass, chances are, your theories are correct.
