All of my dolls are sculpted fresh each time and not made from molds. However I am having a doll cast in resin soon. I hope eventualy to have my dolls available in limited editions.

The jointed doll I am casting is named Vanessa and you can see her WIP shots in my gallery. If all goes well I will make another full doll like one of my child characters. I am also hoping to have a bust ready sometime in the next year. Ive been Β trying to get a website together and Β in Nov I have some Β one of a kind peices showing in a gallery.
Β I looked at your gallery and with your drawing skills you should be Β a good sculptor too. The same knowledge transfers after a small leaning curve with polymer clay.

Oh sweet... thanks for all the info again. Helps bunches. I too am going to try to have a website up by end of Oct here.. it's reallt what I am pushing for.Β
I have some comic book titles I am developing and would love to have some 3d representations of my characters created.. so that's what I am pushing to do to.Β
Not sure it I'll be able to get some scuptures going by but that portion will be a work in progress. Learning soooo much on here. Β Oh and thanks for the complements!
I do feel a good transfer from drawing to modeling right away.. at this point I am creating more cartoony/expressive work and then will go into some more realisticΒ
sculptures.Β

oh my... how do you add those textures to their faces?! i clearly see little hairs, and pores... just how cool is it to have such talent ??
π: 0 β©: 1
Sleetwealth In reply to DarkLittlePeople [2012-06-11 21:36:16 +0000 UTC]
the appearance of pores comes from the stippling of the paint and I use a ball stylus and sharp needle for hairs that I draw in the clay

oh, ok ! i'd figured out the brows, but her cheeks look like they have a fine duvet - i guess it's the paint then. thank you so much for answering my question, you just gave me my very first painting lesson, i really appreciate. :*

yes well its Genesis heat set oil paint and the way I apply it is with a pouncing motion with a stiff boar bristle brush. The paint is thicker so you get a stippling that stands up a bit.

it's really cool, - and you are truly adorable ! i guess i'll have to invest in those paints some day, and give it a try. more for the experimenting fun, since i don't think it would have the same effect on a much smaller face. thank you so much for sharing your tips, i don't believe everyone would.

the genesis are good paints since you never have to worry they will dry out as your still working
I paint this way on smaller dolls as well but the effect is different. if depends on how heavily you apply the paint as well.

your welcome.

i guess on smaller dolls one would need much finer bristles but still stiff enough - that probably doesn't exist, hmm. maybe try to make it with something else, re-hmm.

perhaps a sponge and acrylic would do the same on a small scale.

i'll have to try that - if i manage to finish a doll some day. at this moment i keep starting new dolls, can't help it !

oh thats common. you will get past it. the energy and excitement of starting a new doll fads. Usually as soon as you hit a problem. or you just get bored as your too used to yourself.

actually, i can never get enough of myself ! XD
just kidding. how long have you been doing this for ? i saw a painting you did when you were 16, i think, so it's obvious you've always been very talented. i'm just wondering if i should keep trying or if i'm just not talented enough.

I have been sculpting for 7-8 yrs now.but I always have been creative. even as a kid 8 yrs old I was sewing tiny creatures. I was painting at 14. so yes I started early but, still there are others who are babies to me and so much better than I ever was.. Im humbled daily.but I must do it because its my purpose. its not to be the best even though I wish I could.. but I will be the best me!

I use a 2 in one metal tool and ball stylus most often. Toothpicks sometimes and a sharp blade.
