Description
This was inspired by an amazing book called Lord of Light, and I'm afraid it does very little justice to it.This is the battle between Yama, the death god (in red) and Rild, the holy executioner of Kali.
I didn't really capture what I set out to, and am not very pleased with what came out - but as always, I've learned a lot.
Hope you like it more than I.

Kali the Goddess. You should read the book, it is the most exquisite combination of science fiction and Indian mythology!

i knw abt the book its pro-buddhist and anti-hindu right?.. cuz i guess the author doesn't understand the ancient indian culture.and its really saddening to hear that a person can write book where the lead character kills the goddess i revere so much without having the slightest knowledge about what the indian gods represent and what the rituals mean.
neways i don't want to talk about this book any further.thank you

But you are wrong. It is not a pro buddhist and anti-hindu book at all.
The people (yes, people) carrying the Indian God's names are merely demi-Gods, their relation to actual Indian mythology is not but by name. What do you know about the lead character? Why do you think he kills Kali at all?
I think you're the one who knows nothing about the book and decides not to read it because you're afraid to be religiously offended, and that is much more saddening than any piece of text.

Wow. I love the suspense of this piece. The detailing of the landscape and the juxtaposition of the two characters really captivate my senses, not to mention the lighting as well as the red tones. Beautiful piece!

long time, man!
i totally didn't recognize your style from the thumbnail. i was surprised when i saw it's yours. maybe because i don't recall any fantasy work, maybe because the colour and style are different from your usual style.
needless to say, it's well executed and awesome. but i kinda miss the textury goodness i am used to in your finished work. it never fails to impress me and i think this would have benifitted from some additional texturing (especially the trees).
i gotta say it's not one of my favourite works of yours. it feels like i've seen this image in countless places before. the poses, the fight-sequnce-y cinematic framing. you usually imbue your stuff with a very strong sense of atmosphere and character, and i'm not feeling it here.
I haven't read that book, so i don't know about the context, but this fight between two gods feels a bit mundane, you know? i don't mean it needs some lightning and purple halos and such other banal fantasy tropes. they're just not very awe-inspiring.
also, the bdsm dude's right leg should be snapped in two with that arching, and his pose is generally a bit stiff (and maybe i'm just 10 years old, but seeing such a well-defined butt in that stiff pose... well, i keep thinking about poo...i'm sorry i'm a moron.)
as usual, i feel inadequate criticizing you, but it's become something of a tradition for me, so i do it anyway.
hope i managed to be constructive and not just lul-zy.

I actually agree with everything you said. I never go to finer textures because I just wanted to "finish" it and put it aside. As for the subject - like I wrote above, I don't like the result. And the topic sounds very mundane, yea. But that's because I didn't do a good job with it - the book is really amazing and really has nothing to do with banality. It's a sci-fi book, not fantasy, and it's crazy good. So read it!

I love the book and this is an absolutelly marvelous rendition of the scene! Just as I always imagined!
The dynamics, the juxtaposition of the characters poses, the subtle yet rich background - all works to comvine a truelly vivid and living peace.
Great job.
