Description
A basemap, (sort of.) Edited from www.deviantart.com/terrantechn… The terrestrial planets, moons, and dwarf planets are to scale with each other, and the gas and ice giants are to scale with each other.I love imagining the future of our solar system, so I made this so that I could slap together different scenarios.
Note than Deviantart won't display the full size unless you download. I may update this every so often.

Sunline is an idea I stole from Orions Arm, where the equator of a gas giant could be illuminated to make it's moons habitable. A sundot is just a name I came up with for a tiny artificial sun. (Could use artificial gravity or just be a megascale lightbulb I suppose.)

Why not add the galaxy background in different colors?

Here are the backgrounds I've made: sta.sh/223r2ck9px0f you could just shift the hue in some image editing software. (I recommend Paint.NET)

I've downloaded it, but I don't know where to go from there. Any advice?

Sorry for the late reply. Just pick out the planets you like and place them onto a background, here's some that I made: sta.sh/223r2ck9px0f Then you place the shadows on top in a different layer. If you don't have any image editing software I recommend Paint.NET.
The idea with this is that you can quickly make a simple map of the solar system for whatever science-fiction setting you are imagining. You could also edit the planets to make it into a different star system. Here's some examples: sta.sh/21gnea8vzxq6 The default colors are realistic but I like changing them for different tones.

It's fine.
I've never heard of Paint.NET, but I'll try to look into it when I have the chance. Thank you.
Edit: Is Paint.NET really free or is it just a cruel marketing trick?

Ignore the Windows Store version, Paint.NET is free.

Make sure you download it with the button because Deviantart is antialiasing it.
