Description YARRR!! My challenging 3rd commission is done! For this one I was required to uplevel my technique in matte painting, watching a few hours of tutorials - sure there's still much to improve (I wish I could add more details on the 'steampunk' cities but I felt this already crowded.. ) but personally I'm very satisfied with my current skill and the result, this has to be my most complex mixed media work so far! Thanks to QuantumKonar for commissioning me, loved the epic request!

Character Description by QuantumKonar  :

It's a world "in-between" other worlds so people from all times and places arrive there when lost. The city, known as Cross City, thus features everything from cutting edge modern skyscrapers to Victorian clocktowers to medieval castles all side by side. In terms of Geography it's basically New York City what with the waters going through and around it with separated areas by water.

Near the center of Cross City stands a massive tree. Huge. Large enough that the buildings beneath it are tiny in comparison. It needs to be big enough that the Hydra heads and it look of a similar scale. In particular the Hydra heads need to be looking 'up' at the top of it.

There should be three Hydra heads- the bulk of the body can be hidden or not even featured as it's ultimately not the body that's important but the heads. They should have clouds of fog underneath them if possible because the Hydra can only appear by traveling between worlds- which is a dimension full of fog and clouds.

The Hydra measurements in case you want that now are as follows- you do not have to be remotely exact to this nor do I expect such a thing but I figured it would be helpful if you needed to compare sizes to New York City for general. If it helps- Central Park is 4 kilometers long and I believe 0.8 kilometers wide.

Hydra head width: 0.8 kilometers
Hydra neck length including head: 4 kilometers
Hydra body length including neck and heads: 16 kilometers
But again, the body is not important and actually would force an extremely wide view to include it all, probably too wide to the point where buildings would barely be visible, which is why it would be better just to go with the necks and heads imo.

The Hydra heads should be a dark hue, reptilian in nature, with full sets of curved teeth on the outside of the jaws instead of inside, not uniform but irregular in pattern. The shape of the head should be similar to an alligator. The twin eyes each head has should be pure white- perhaps with a glow if you think that would look nice or just a dull white if not.

I have no complaints- it's better than I hoped for and given how technically unreasonable/complex the request was- I wasn't hoping for much.

Don't let that expression fool you- I'm amazed at the ending result and am more than satisfied with the work. I agree it's a bit busy but that's frankly rather fitting given the amount of trouble that thing causes- think of it as capturing the chaotic nature of the world in the middle of dealing with the 2nd worst danger it ever faced. The liberties of the written word compared to a visual picture is I can be as preposterous as I want when describing things- you had your work cut out for you.

Consider this my favorite commission to date and you're a pleasure to work with as well.

(I'm not familiar enough with DA to actually do more than comment so it's all I can do to show approval)

Thanks so much, so happy you love the result! I'll take the feedback for my next works - too busy, huh? I think you got a point there, I realized now I probably tend to give more amount of details to the scene than it's suppose to be. No problem, this feedback already made my day, thanks again, also a pleasure working with you.~
