Thank you Aaron. Helmsley is one of my favourite towns in the U.K. (if not THE favourite). We go up to N Yorkshire at least twice a year and I never tire of having a wander around!

Oh it is - we have a trip up to Helmsley at least twice a year and, coincidentally were up there last week. Weather wasn't great but Helmsley in torrential rain and mist is just as beautiful!!

It seems we not only have crossed paths in Runswick but we could have almost bumped into each other here since I was also there in March 2012.. [link]

You captured this well .

What a coincidence - probably even the same daffodils!!! I bet you've eaten at the Feathers as well?!! We always stay in Helmsley on our trips up to Yorkshire - it's a beautiful town. As for the "captured this well" comment - thank you and I can return the compliment: you also "captured this well"!! I'll have a look at your gallery and see if I can spot any more favourite haunts!

YorkshireSam In reply to smallsofthamish [2013-02-23 13:10:53 +0000 UTC]

Definately the same daffs, though even more blooms in your pic since they were only just coming out when I was there.

Never eaten at the Feathers, just left of your shot is a home bakery and I prefer to buy something from there and sit eating it on the bench by the bridge so I can enjoy the view. Yes I'm sure I'll have covered most of if not all of what you label favourite haunts since it is my home turf and the place I love. Many thanks

Think I know just the home bakery! The Feathers is one of our evening eating places - a touch warmer than the bench by the bridge!

Yes, could almost believe it was Spring! Another five or six weeks and it should look like this again . The architecture is fairly typical of that part of the country. We love it.

Oh that's a shame. Daffodils here herald a new beginning and we all feel much more optimistic! You don't know what you're missing! Of course it often happens that the poor little daffodils poke their heads out only to be knocked over by a late but heavy fall of snow!!

I know! I wish we had them they are so pretty we only have them in the stores right now! Aw maybe they shouldn't come out so early. C:

It's our crazy British weather. Today it's been snowing and was under Zero degrees (C). It's now bucketing down with rain and tomorrow, apparently, (well actually that's today now as it's almost 1 a.m.) we'll be up to 9 degrees! Plants must be doing the plant version of tearing their hair out!!

Ha are weather is like that one minute we were having a blizzard an hour later and it was sunny like spring. 9 degrees that's nice were at like minus something C: ha maybe

wonderful shot and if the left side was cropped out it would be awesome......it takes away from this gorgeous shot

smallsofthamish In reply to 1001G [2013-02-11 00:01:36 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for your comment. You're probably right. Strangely had already cropped out quite a sizeable chunk from the left side and tried it with more cropping but decided that the church then became a bit too central and for me the telegraph pole stood out more so .... a bit of a dilemma: to crop more or not to crop?! Will be more ruthless next time.

What is it Ken Rockwell says? .. S EX (Simpify and Exclude!) The problems start when so much has to be excluded that there's nothing left!!

Must admit I'm a big fan of daffodils too. On this photo I couldn't quite bring myself to employing the Rockwell rule and chopping them out!!

Looking at the blue sky - yes it is hard to believe!! In fact this photo was taken in March last year, the day before the monsoon hit the UK!! However, I'm sure you'll agree that given good weather, parts of England are hard to beat on beauty.

Thanks for the comment. Yes, it's a beautiful town, probably our favourite of all the towns in England. The architecture in this part of Yorkshire is lovely. Yes, I think you need to visit Europe!! It has pretty much everything and most of all, of course, we have history!!
