It is indeed a pity. Along with the damage to the bridge several paintings were also lost and although they are being reproduced, it's not quite the same.Β

Thanks Penny. Yes the hanging baskets do give the bridge a bright and cheerful look don't they.

Sadly, the bridge was badly damaged by fire in 1993 (you probably know this; being so widely travelled!) and a series of Β 17th century paintings on each section of the bridge also destroyed.

Summer in Switzerland is fine for walking and exploring history.

If you miss industry and nuclear energy, it is between ZΓΌrich and the border to Germany.

I think it would be mine too; it's beautiful isn't it. As it happens it's the only Swiss city I have visited although we drove through Basel, Zurich and Geneve.Β

Ah, memories! I have worked there for 5 summer seasons during my uni years. I almost married a guy from that city.
Switzerland is such a lovely country, especially for hiking in the mountains. And their cheese mmmmmh!

You are such a lucky person; Lucerne came very close to being my favourite city of anywhere in the World!! It's amazing how being on DA and seeing a photo can trigger so many memories. Hope yours were mostly happy!

You are right! I immediately fell in love with that adorable town when I got off the train for the first time. It didn't hurt either to meet a boy who became my boyfriend of 5 years. We didn't marry in the end, but I had a wonderful time with him and his whole family. We really went on well, did hiking tours in the Swiss alps and spent lots and lots of time together. I have the fondest memories of that time of my life.
