Would I be allowed to do your piece for a case study in my art class? It's truly inspiring

Sure thing. I'd like to read the case study when you're done, just out of curiosity.

OKaaaaay....

In this Case Study I have chosen an artwork called β€˜Culture Shock’ by Dan Meyer. I chose this artwork because not only is it in the Digital Art category, but its colours and pop art imagery interested me.
I’ll be looking at the work through the Structural, Cultural and Subjective frames.

SUBJECTIVE
My first impression when I saw this art contained infatuation. I like the way he’s used words with faint opacity in the back ground, while having contrasting colours in front like a sweet, lime green against a dark brown.
It gives you a kind of happy feeling before you realize what the piece is about.
What I see is this;
Despite the bright colours and pretty pictures, the artwork is actually called β€˜Culture Shock’. In the photo, if you look closely, you see buildings, construction machines, broken fences and cars parked around. This is showing our modern culture.
It’s telling us, β€œLook what we have become.” By showing the amount of things that have been β€˜improved’ over the years and using technology to make this artwork, it has really put the point out there.
I think that this Artist chose to express his feelings about the world and how it is today, with the modern city shot and interpreting it into his own style of art.

CULTURAL
This artwork’s culture is from the city life. The building shows this with its many stories and fancy design of architecture. Construction fences and machinery also show this, along with large car parks.
It’s everything you’d find in the city and suburbs.
Society is so caught up in their own personal lives to realize the world changing around them, so this artwork I think was created to show this perspective of our culture. Something that people might have missed changing over the years.

STRUCTURAL
This digital art was made with Photoshop paintbrushes and real photos, put together to create a kind of Pop Art.
With photos of the building, machines and fences against an almost plain background, it is really contrasted.
Designs were also added in to give it a quirky kind of feel, a fun artistic style. The main colours are green and brown, two colours that are opposite each other and complement one another. I think it was a great choice. Something different.
The name of the artwork is also printed in the background, but you don’t really notice this until you look harder at the image. Not only is it just printed, but it is tilted in odd angles, again for that quirky effect with a load of patterns around it.

This artwork shows the things in life we might be missing. How the world is changing… for the better or for the good? It is your own opinion.
It’s a touching piece.

See, you taught me something about my own piece. I only wish I had that much forethought when I make art.

Thanks!

I see you haven't lost your touch for a good composition... you up for some more gaming soon?

I was watching sailor moon (yeah i'm a dork), and there was an episode where she had to hit a monster at the base of the tail because it was it's weak spot... it even glowed. It reminded me of that crazy drunken horse game... thank god i finally learned how to climb those beasts.
