First of, condolences on your loss, that must be difficult and it is very kind of you to make this dedication to your mother.
This is a great album you have made here Dan, it is dreamlike without being too slow or repetitive and i think you have used a lot of electronica sounds without going too beat heavy which seems a common mistake these days- you have made good progress in the style.
I have all your albums to date and this captures an essence of both my favourites (Edge of the World Party and Scottish Watercolours). It has the lively and almost childlike synthpop of the former and the heavy atmosphere and lucid ambience of the latter.
I have played the album a few times over while doing some writing and you have captured one of those few great musical niches which works both to relax the listener and to inspire them simultaneously (a style of music i am always searching for).
I don't know how much of a thorough review you want so i won't go into much more detail over than to say that each of the tracks is necessary and each bring something original to the feel of the overall piece.
I am unsure of my favourite song but i think Demographic may be it- i am awe of it's almost lachrymose overtones.
A lot of the music feels like it belongs in a video game (that i meant to be complimentary), i am wondering if that was purposeful? Carnivale especially reminds me of the Metroid games.
I hope that critique in some way sheds light on how i feel about the album. In short, well done.

Thanks so much for the kind words. It really does mean a lot to know there are people out there listening to the music, multiple times, even -- When I get some time later tonight I hope to add some of your thoughts to the little blurb about the album on the download pages.
If you want a poster or actual CD (I'm not sure if people even use these anymore), just let me know via email, dan (at) fictionalhead.com (so as to not have addresses and things public), and I can send you something.
Thanks again.

My heartfelt condolences about your mother. I'm sure she'll be (and always be) proud of all your achievements. I personally am not a fan of this type of music, but even so, I did enjoy listening, and a few tracks were really perfect for just putting on in the background and relaxing to Good luck with all your endeavors... art and music wise!!

Hey Smash, I've been listening to your tracks since "People Turning Inward", which I still listen to every now and then. I must say that I prefer your older psychedelic work more, but this last one is very good too, with a nice mix of styles.
"Strobe Minor" and "Level" are my favorites, probably due to being more synth-heavy as you said.
Thanks for another great album!

Hey,
Thanks for the honest opinion. I can say that I know about the distinction you mention, since a lot of the older stuff had more samples, and generally much different tone. I wouldn't even really consider them the same at all, but I'm glad you at least found some high points in the new stuff. I think from this album, Level, Strobe Minor, and Carnivale are all pretty "electronic" while the other tracks are more instrumental/soundtrack-ish.
There were a couple on It Only Ends Once with a more synth heavy tone too. In the future if one of my buddies gets more time we might resurrect Floating Couch, and write some heavier stuff you might enjoy.

Well, I just listened the album, and it sounds pretty nice.
Besides this style of music (so calm) it totally not my style, I can see the beauty of it. It sounds very nice.
The artwork also looks great !
