Description
This is what the locket looks like full opened. Again, sterling silver outer, copper pages, fine silver centerball chain. The pages say, from front to back, Frustration, Anger, Lonely, Pain, Hate, Self-Destruction. The idea behind the piece is how you present a happy face to the world while holding "negative" emotions inside. Photos of the individual pages can be found in my Scraps area.
Unfortunately, I didn't realize how much of the bottom of the pages would be covered up since I'd never made a mechanism like that before so some of them are hard to see- the Lonely page especially.

I don't know- when were you looking? ;-D
It's easy to do good work when you're learning from two of the best damn metalsmiths ever (they being Cappy Counard & Sue Amendolara, listed is two of my favorite artists in my profile). If I didn't they'll give me that "We're so disappointed in you..." look...ugh. I hate that!

You can check out all of Sue's work at [link] . It's a really nice site. As far as I know, Cappy doesn't have as much on the web- I think just individual pieces from shows. It's worth looking her up, though. Amazing, amazing work!

It's beautiful! Have you considered starting your own jewelry business?

Sort of. I'm developing some "production" pieces, both in jewelry & hollowware.
Mostly my goal is to eventually get my MFA & be a college professor in Metals. And have my own studio.
Or do Objects Conservation at a museum. And have my own studio.

I will do that. May not be too much longer, really. I'm looking to move closer to school & I'll have to pay rent somehow. Selling jewelry certainly beats waiting tables.

This is so fabulous! What size is the locket? -- it's hard to tell scale in the photo.
I have a fascination with metal sculpture with hinges and hidden doors and doodads that swing around and things that go *creak*. So, this piece really gets me. I sooo want to pick it up and open the little compartments and flip through the leaves...
I've never really worked in metal (and being an Art That Can Draw Blood, I'm not likely to), so I don't really have the vocabulary to speak intelligently about the technical aspects. But I can certainly give it an "ooh shiny".
OOH! SHINY!

It's a little over 2 inches high by 1 1/4 wide by 1 deep. So kinda big for a locket but not horribly so. It's weighty, too- you know when you've got it on.
Don't you know that the Arts That Can Draw Blood are always the best ones?
(Side note-- I wish that I could literally laugh my ass off like that little guy. Well, a good portion of it anyway)
And being a fan of Firefly, "Shiny" is pretty high praise.

Sure, okay, but they're the best ones for other people. Not me. Nuh-uh. Glasswork, carving, metalwork... no thanks, I'll leave those to other folks without massive phobias. I have a hard time using kitchen knives. I am waaaay too klutzy.
I'll stick to paintbrushes and pixels. Hardly any chance I can injure myself with those.

Or poison myself by grabbing the wrong glass and chugging the paint water thinking it was my iced tea.
I had to get a bottle with a lid so I could keep a drink with me while I paint that I couldn't keep sticking the brushes into.
