Important things not included in the ref:

- His name, Azima, is Swahili and means "charmed into motion". His mother gave it to him because he was a bit of a lazy cub but could be bribed or tricked into action, so the name kind of fit him from day one. His friends sometimes call him Azzy.

- He's a melanistic lion, meaning that something in his DNA caused an increase in pigment, making him darkly colored, almost black, instead of the usual tawny coat of an African Lion. This gene came from his mother's side of the family, as she too was melanistic, and it seems to be attached to the X-chromosone in some way as it is way more common in females of the family than in males. Azima is the only male of his family to be this distinct in color, and he has a large family so that is saying a lot.

- His mother was born in a large pride with many siblings, half siblings, nieces and nephews, cousins and even her great grandparents. Though the pride had around 50 members, it was disbanded when a pair of rogue males sauntered in and killed the current king. They wanted to kill all of the cubs of the pride, so a few females, Azima's mother included, gathered up all of the cubs and set off to find a safer place for them. The two kings were ruthless and cruel so the whole pride ended up falling apart under their ridiculous leadership. Feeling like failures and looking for revenge, the two males hunted down a lot of the displaced pride and murdered them violently. To escape, the fleeing pride members split up and so, by the time that Azima was old enough to grasp what was going on, it was just him and his mom Adia.

- Adia is still alive at the start of the story. Though Azima eventually joins the Palefall pride, his mother does not go with him. She has grown used to life on her own and, being somewhat older, she does not want to be a burden on anyone's mind. So she encourages Azima to stay with his mate and cubs in the Pale Lands, which he does end up doing, but he still makes frequent trips out into the far lands to visit his mother. He even brings her his first born cub Sauda to meet her. But she passes away before Azima can introduce her to her second grandchild.

Rogue males kill cubs and Kivuli, being the more cautious of the pair of kings, does not want the stranger around.

- Azima complies with this at first, leaving once the female Zuva (played by the lovely ForRealDoe ) is healthy again, but he cannot get her and her young brothers out of his mind. He is a family man by nature and did not realize how lonely he was until he had spent time in a pride like that. So he returns to the Pale Lands often to visit Zuva and her brothers, bringing them gifts and just hanging out and talking all day, only to leave at night at Kivuli's insistance. But, over time, even Kivuli begins to understand that this male is no threat and when Zuva suddenly falls pregnant, Kivuli's opinion flips over completely, now insisting that the male stay and care for his cubs. Azima does not disagree.

- He turns out to be an asset. He is intelligent and kind, a perfect union of brain and brawn. He is a great mediator whenever someone needs some kind of conflict settled and he has worlds worth of advice and knowledge from living on the run as he has his whole life. He ends up being something between an advisor and a liaison between the two kings and their subjects, informing them of what is going on in the territory and what the world is like beyond the crater. He therefore leaves the territory regularly to scout and recruit and, mostly, to visit his mother, but he always returns home afterward. And the Palefall Pride, Zuva and his daughter, and his brothers-in-law, they are home to him now and he turns out to be a loyal and devoted father and pride member, he is willing to do anything for his family and his pride. He didn't realize how great it was to be part of pride and never wants to be a wandering rogue ever again so he is right there on the frontlines for them, willing to do anything.

- Black coat with a light mane, he is a handsome dude and females are constantly flirting with him. Sometimes he goes along with it, trying to tease a reaction out of Zuva, but he would never cheat on her and is just being a cheeky bastard as he's always been something of a lady's man. He is the song Honey I'm Good by Andy Grammer in the form of a lion.

- He is a family man in every sense of the word. He and Zuva only have a few cubs though, as Azima, for some reason, seems to always make small litters. He was his mother's only cub, and when he and Zuva have their babies, their first cub Sauda is born alone as well which is weird and makes Azima a little self-conscious, like there is something wrong with his entire sense of masculinity. But when he loves, he loves HARD and, single cub or not, Sauda is his everything, his babies are more important to him than the sun and the moon and he does everything and anything he can for them.

- He acts as a father figure to Joka and Zenido, even though he is not a whole lot older than them (2 or 3 years max). Raised by females, Joka and Zenido never had a strong male presence in their lives, so Azima, able to sympathize, jumps into that role for them and the whole family just jives together really well. They all get along nicely, Azima always ready to mediate if a fight is immanent and his calm attitude and charming personality and flawless sense of humor always keeps everything pretty peaceful, even the relationship between the two brothers.

Though he tends to fight defensively, he is quick in short spurts and tends to go in on his enemy hard and fast, smacking the crap out of them for a minute before retreating, gathering his strength and then attacking again, usually in response to his enemy making the first move. He is a pascifist and does not believe in killing other lions or other big cats, feeling some sense of loyalty to the species. Generally, he'd rather not hurt anyone but if a fight seems inevitable, then he does not hesitate.

- He tells the best stories and has a million of them to tell. Are they always true? Maybe not. But they are certainly entertaining.

- Though he loves his family very much and spends plenty of time with them, at the end of the day Azima is very aloof and will often disappear in order to just be on his own for a little while and recharge. He has never lived in a pride before and the social requirements weigh on him heavily. Sometimes, he just needs to unwind a bit.

- Voice actor is Hannibal Buress . He is notorious for his incredible sense of humor and killer jokes. He also kind of always sounds like he is high all of the time. And he kind of is. There are some herbs growing in a cave system that his mother and he used to hide in, and after noticing how good they smell, he got into the habit of eating them. And bruh... it's not marijuana but it's good whatever it is. He calls it "Vizuri" which just means "good stuff". It makes you slow, relaxed, kind of introspective, and hungry, he eats a lot not just because he's a big lion who simply needs more food, but also because he's off his ass most of the time. Fortunately, he functions very well when high, it just exaggerates his already calm demeanor and makes him ask dumb questions that turn out to be actually reall introspective so it's all fun, it's nice. He brings lots of it home so the whole pride can partake if they want. Kuba has his reservations but most lions in the pride love it.

- He has four whiskers on his muzzle, two over each eyebrow and then four smaller whiskers on his chin. Pawpads are brown like his nose and his claws, when extended, are white instead of black.

- Note the freckle spots on his muzzle and side. These are constant, they do not disappear like cub spots do, they are permanent and are not the same on his right side as they are on his left. On the right side, he has two at the top of his shoulder, two on his elbow and two at the point of his hip (those are the same as seen here on his left side). He also has a dark, almost black, stripe down his back.

- Though his mane is long and covers half of his face most of the time, it is not hiding anything. The right side of his face is fine, that eye is no different, nothing weird is being hidden beneath his fringe. He does have two freckles on his cheek on that side but otherwise, the right side of his face is no different from the left side of his face.

- Though not the story's protagonist, he is probably my favorite lion in this little universe of mine. I love his colors and drawing him and his personality and everything, he and Bandile are my lovelies. Info on his mate Zuva and his cub Sauda coming soon.

Holy shit, it's a heterosexual character for once. This is a very special occasion. x3 Don't get too excited though, I'm pretty sure Sauda is going to be a lesbian so... what can I say? It's a queer as fuck pride, let me have my gays and lesbians, let me have them.
