Important things not included in the ref:

- Though his full name is Dhahabu, usually he just goes by Dabu. Dhahabu means "gold" in Swahili.

- He becomes part of Kuba and Kivu's pride in the Palelands when he was still quite young. His mother came to them, she was part of a small nomadic pride that was more of a pile of rogues than it was any kind of pride or family. None of the lions in this group cared for one another, they only stuck around for convenience sake. Dabu was an accident, an unwanted side effect of having a little too much fun. They brought him to the Palelands to trade him with Kuba and Kivuli's pride, hoping to give him up for some kind of payment- specifically they needed more females and demanded they give one of their female cubs in exchange. Of course, they refused so Dabu was carried off by his pride, but later that night he snuck out and begged the Palefall Pride to take him, describing how much he hated living with rogues- always on the move, always hungry, often neglected and ignored. It didn't hurt that there was a certainly handsome cub about his age whom he was very interested in getting to know.

- Keeping Dabu was a fight between the Palefall Pride and the Wanderers, who of course tracked Dabu down and demanded some form of payment for him. Kuba paid them handsomely by hitting the lead female so hard that she was instantly knocked out. The other Wanderers immediately decided that the cub was not worth being on the wrong side of that kind of power so they bailed, absolutely terrified of the insistent Kuba.

- Because of this, Dabu has a really good relationship with Kuba. He looks up to the big beefy boy and wants to be just like him, big and strong and just unafraid, undaunted, powerful and insistent like a storm that was coming, something unstoppable. Kuba teaches the cub that power isn't everything and that learning how to use it and when to use it is the real secret. Dabu doesn't understand this, wanting to use his power to keep others safe, to keep his pride safe. But Kuba teaches pacifism and to value life and Dabu listens to these teachings less and less as he gets older.

- He grows up with Kivu and Kuba's oldest son Kipaji . As cubs, they are best friends, Dabu being a cheeky son of a bitch who loves practical jokes. So he and Kip wreak havoc on the pride with their antics. They are always together, Dabu is protective of Kip and jumps at the chance to defend him from harm, while Kip is the more intellectual of the two and is generally the one who comes up with their little tricks and schemes with Dabu being more of a follower. Though Kuba and Kivu especially can tell that the cubs are meant for each other, Dabu and Kip have the same reaction most children have, thinking that marriage is gross and that there is no way that they are going to be mates.

- Of course they are just stupid cubs and they end up as boyfriends sometime in their teenage years.

- Dabu is much larger than Kip. He's a big solid cub and grows into a big solid adult. Kip assigns him the role of being The Lion Guard's strongest, something that fits Dabu perfectly as he is more brawn than brains most of the time.

- He's a little bit confused about being in a pride that actually cares for each other. He doesn't know how to play games and have fun, the Palefall Pride teaches him how to do this, how to play, how to laugh, and it's very cute. He proves to be easily amused. He is also introduced to the Circle of Life concept and he finds so much security and confidence in that belief, that everything comes around in the end and that everyone is important, everyone has a role to play in life. So he becomes a little preachy about the Circle of Life but Kip knows how to keep him from rambling too much.

- He is easy to recognize as he sports a big curved roman nose, his nose bridge curving upward in a gentle sweep. His pink nose is also large and noticeable, and he has big blue expressive eyes and thick black eyebrows.

- Though no one knows this until he is older, Dabu has a head of thick brown hair that is ridiculously defined considering his young age because, secretly, he is a Barbary Lion. He grows up to have more mane than anyone knows what to do with. So as a cub, he is fluffy as all get out, just lots of hair that only darkens and thickens with time.

- Sun's out, claws out.

- He is generally built and colored like a Pridelander, even though his mother looked more Outlander-ish. No one knows who his father is though so it's assumed he simply takes after the missing male.

- He can be depicted with the mark of the Lion Guard on his shoulder, at least as a cub. As an adult, his mane covers it up.

- The ring in his ear was a gift from Kip when Dabu first joined the Palefall Pride. It has the feather of what looks like a kingfisher-type bird hanging from it, colored a brilliant blue and white with a hint of sea green in there for good measure. It is larger than an actual kingfisher bird, no one really knows what kind of feather it is, but it was beautifully colored so Kip considered it a nice gift. Dabu had never gotten a gift of any kind before, had never had someone show that they value his life and presence. The feather is his lifeblood, he never takes it off and would kill if it was stolen or damaged.

- And of course, he was an adoptable. Specifically number 4 here .
