Description
Here’s a human form for Queen Mary 2, the world’s last functional ocean liner! Like my Britannic drawing, this is part reference and part regular art piece. It even has shading! Also, this piece is one of my mom’s favorites, so I’m extra happy about it.
Design Notes:
-The cut of her dress is very similar to Normandie’s, as the two ships have similar-looking hulls. It’s a bit ironic, given that QM2’s predecessor is Normandie’s rival, but really, they look a lot alike.
-Her outfit as a whole is supposed to be semiformal, as even in modern times Cunard ships have dress codes, yet also sexy, because QM2 is a modern-day ship and that kind of thing is far more acceptable these days.
-I based her shoes and the print on her dress very heavily off the appearance of her hull as a ship, making her more of a typical gijinka than most of the other ships. It turned out really nice, save for the gold “lifeboat” design around her waist; turns out pushing myself a bit is a really good idea!
-Her sunglasses are Versace and of course she has a fancy phone, because I felt like she should be super rich. In fact, my original concept for her personality was literally just “stereotypical rich white girl,” although I ended up fleshing her out more.
-She’s dummy thicc, as is fitting for the largest ocean liner ever built (though even she is dwarfed by some of the newer cruise ships!), and she’s also incredibly tall, standing at 6’5”… without the ridiculous platform heels. I imagine that she has to duck when she walks through doors with her platforms on haha
-She’s a lesson in tastefully-applied spray-tan; so tasteful and well-done, in fact, that you can still see her freckles underneath. It’s really just enhancing her natural skintone!
-Her nails are black acrylic. Originally I imagined them as red, but the way her fingers look when I did the ink made me switch to black instead.
-Unlike all her predecessors (except possibly QE2, who I haven’t designed yet), there’s no white in her hair. This sets her apart from the others, as she’s very unique in her role and cultural context. Interestingly, each of the modern Cunard ships has a unique color associated with her, and by sheer coincidence the red in QM2’s hair matches her official color pretty well!
Personality:
Queen Mary 2 may be a classy, sophisticated ocean liner, but she’s also a fun-loving girl who knows how to party! She’s laid-back and cheerful, fond of making jokes - although those jokes often confuse or disturb the older ships, as her brand of humor is distinctly Gen Z - or chatting with anyone who’s willing to talk to her, which is nearly anyone she meets given how bubbly and friendly she is! It helps, too, that in addition to being fluent in both English and French she’s able to speak varying amounts of several other languages, such as German and Spanish - an incredibly useful skill for such a social butterfly!
She’s not just a cheery, outgoing party animal, though: as a matter of fact, she’s also more than capable of displaying the same elegance and class as her predecessors if she so chooses! She’s far more mature than she lets on, and despite her generally relaxed attitude she takes her role as the last operational ocean liner very seriously, even if it can be a bit lonely and alienating at times.
