Thank you so much.
This afternoon I meet my friends from the local mushroom-society. We come together every wednesdayafternoon to visit a certain place to inventarize on fungi. I always take pictures. I hope to see today some Dumontinia tuberosa, Sarcoscypha coccinea and maybe some Sclerotinia sp. I'll upload some of the pictures if we see some interesting species.

I find them almost every time I walk through the forest during autumn. It's just a matter of knowing where to look and to observe very well (they measure only 3-5 mm). They are little jewels.

I am forever working on my observation skills. It drives me crazy when I can smell mushrooms nearby but can't find 'em!

And some mushrooms you can really smell from a long distance!
for instance: Phallus impudicus (bad smell) and Lactarius camphoratus (spicy smell)

I noticed that your great stinkhorn looks very similar to the Phallus impudicus which grows in Europe.

Are you sure they aren't the same, but just with different names?
The first one I ever saw, I just about died laughing! I went home and told my mom, "I just saw a bunch of penis mushrooms!" I then started searching for the name at Mushroom Art, randomly clicking on different ones and not making much headway, until I saw the word "phallus" and thought, "Of course!!"
What else are you gonna call them, right? Anyhow, that first one was a Phallus ravanelii. This other one had the long white net.

Take a look at [link]
Your mushroom looks very like ours, but I've never seen the net.

Oh, good God, I'm at WORK! I can't be looking at big photos of phallic mushrooms! The red one I have not come across yet, but the bottom one, yes. The one with the net is very very similar to the one on the bottom. They are the ones you can "grow" indoors if you want (trust me, you don't).

Did you know that the Phallus impudicus can be eaten? I mean the 'egg'. When you cut it in two halves, the white part in the middle is edible. It tastes like radish. Yummie...
btw: You know that all fungi can be eaten. Unfortunately some of them only once.

I don't know that I'm crazy about how mushrooms taste. I just love to find and photograph them. And that is a very good expression about eating fungi.
