As a young child he would watch his father murder, conquer and ruler of his home planet of Debstam IV, Although, the way he saw it his father was the hero. After watching for hours he'd recreate some of the battles using dead bodies as playthings. Then one day a small space ship crashed and Mongul Jr. enslaved its crew. He had them build a monument to him and he dress them up as Gladiators and spar against them. He kill one or two before his father caught him. Mongul Sr was not happy and killed the aliens, claiming only he should be aloud slaves. then with one punch he destroyed his son's monument. Mongul although he looked up to his father believed him to be weak and wanted to kill him after he learnt from him. After a century he became stronger and murdered his father as his sister joined in. Mongul then extended his new empire to the stars by taking over Warworld as his sister ruled Debstam IV there home planet. He began conquering numerous planets and ruling with an iron fist, coming into conflict with the Green Lanterns, he managed to kill any Green Lanterns that tried to stop him. He became one of the most wanted beings in the universe. Mongul, as the ruler of Warworld was entertaining himself and his citizens with gladiator like games. Mongul captures Superman to participate in his gladiator games, but Superman joins forces with another warrior named, Mongul's Champion Draaga causing Mongul to fight them both, He managed to snap Draaga but ultimately lost to Superman.

Superman sent Mongul to the phantom zone as well as his warworld freeing the slave and giving them to the Green Lantern corps to be given new homes. Mongul was then freed by Cyborg Superman and General Zod to attack Earth with them and turn Earth into another Warworld. In the process of making Earth another Warlworld Coast City was destroyed which lead to Hal Jordan helping Superman and The Justice League defeat Mongul. This drove Hal Jordan mad, he was corrupted by the being Parallax and vowed to murder Mongul, Hal, destroyed Mongul's homeworld as well as taking his sister hostage. Mongul wants revenge and would stop at nothing until Hal, his Green Lanterns and his planet are destroyed.

Mongul has physical strength to fight on higher terms against Superman. Mongul has enough physical strength to defeat Wonder Woman effortlessly.
