Description
Five handheld landscape shots - stitched. The link between the Forth and Clyde Canal and the Union Canal 115 feet above. Historically, the two canals had been joined at Falkirk by a flight of 11 locks that stepped down across a distance of 1.5km, but these were dismantled in 1933, breaking the link.
What was required was a method of connecting these two canals by way of a boat lift. British Waterways were keen to present a visionary solution taking full advantage of the opportunity to create a truly spectacular and fitting structure that would suitably commemorate the Millennium and act as an iconic symbol for years to come.

Cheers for that Jeff, it's an awesome bit of engineering as well!

Been there, but I don't recall the date.. I wonder if we were there the same time?
This is a great shot
I love how you can see just how tiny people are in comparison to the massive canal.

All these shots were taken on Monday 22nd Sept 08 around 1400, so you will have to check your diary
As you say, you don't realise how large this wonder of engineering really is. I was lucky to see it in operation and it was great. What I want to try and achieve is to be there when it is operating and take a series of shots and then blend them together so you see the movement of the actual wheel.

I asked around and no one can remember when we went, haha.
We must have some pictures though, so will have to check the date on them
We went on it, which was amazing, but a totally different experience to seeing what it actually does.
I think that would make a great photo, be sure to upload it to the club if you do make it!

I did see that they did rides as well, but I managed to watch a canal boat come up through the locks, through the wheel, and out through the top. Thatis the sort of sequence I want to capture along with the turning wheel. I will probably be spring or summer when I do it, and if it works as I hope it will be posted, if not then into the

I think that'd look awesome and I'd love to see it done
I hope it works out!

I second your comment on the engineering concept, it is wonderful. The day I took the photograph I was lucky enough to see a canal boat transit through from the bottom canal to the top canal - awesome to see in operation.
For info the Wheel picture is a stitch of 5 handheld landscape shots.
Thanks the selecting the two snaps for your collection
Cheers
Rod
