This is really cool! ^^ It reminds me of the time when I actually used Blender to make models of my characters last year. I've lost interest since because of how long it took to make the UV map. x3

I'm pretty sure you won't have issues with posting here. I mean, a portfolio is something that shows off your skills. If someone else uses it and obviously can't produce the same quality will certainly have issues. Though I would have to tell you it's a good idea to decide whether or not you'll use your name as soon as you can.

thank you!! uv maps take so long man :'D i envy anyone who has the patience to sew vertices together all day to make clean maps ahahaha

my teacher told us explicitly to NOT link deviantart in our resumes but i think i'll be able to back myself up if they find this site somehow, it's not like i don't have folders full of my drawings and layer files on my computers haha

yeah, i know though. a lot of people even like...start using their chosen name professionally when they START college but i've been like. really scared to tbh, it's been an idea running in the back of my mind for about a year now to text my family or something about my gender and name and stuff and just take a shot in the dark that they'll consider me actually male. i mean, whether or not they do won't affect my professional life but....it's nerve-wracking ]: i hope i can work up the courage to do something about it before i graduate, it'll probably help me a lot in the long run

I'm not experienced in 3D modelling, so you kinda lost me on whatever you said as far as "sewing vertices". My first UV map was honestly a very "beginner-ish" experience, full of awful-looking stuff. I only have myself to blame because the first model I made that map for was over 400-500 faces (without smoothing). The reason I came to do 3D is simply to make papercraft models of my characters. Unfortunately, I haven't figured where one can laser print 40 pages worth of files.

Personally, I would have to agree with your teacher on that. DeviantArt is more "social media" than "artist profile". Sure, art is important here, but where have you actually found a professional portfolio solely based on this site? It's more a hobbyist place than anything else most people here that "make money off DA" depend on Patreon, small freelance commissions and their popularity here, rather than because they're actual professionals in the field.

One thing to note is that DeviantArt does offer an actual portfolio service to make use of (you know... to separate your art from this messy site). However, you have to have Core Membership to use and abuse it, just like everything else that's good on the site, haha.

When I first came to the internet, it was to look for pictures of Princess Luna. That was my main intention. However, as soon as I signed in to Broekaki, I figured I'd just use my "nickname" I've been debating on calling myself 6 months prior as my username. It's been over 2 years since then and now I find the username (which went from "Gold N Retriever" to one-word-lowercase) a personal brand of mine. Sure, I have not made the link between the username and my real identity public yet, but I won't trade for another username ever.

tl;dr Use the name, but not professionally. Stick with it for about a year or two and don't think about it in a professional way just yet. You'll either love it as a pet or dump it.

i was thinking of taking up dA's portfolio feature, it actually looks nice from the sites i've checked out before. but yeah definitely one of the major reasons that professionals will advise against using your deviantart as an actual portfolio is because it's too "personal" (plus my instructor said that she doesn't like having to make so many clicks onscreen through a gallery, which is understandable i guess)

oh no though, i was thinking of like....legally changing my name in the future, like to replace my birth name. although i have sort of standardized "snaximation" through most of my accounts to be sort of my brand and stuff; i can change that anytime. but i haven't been able to use the first name i'd like to go by irl hardly at all except amongst friends and such and that's where my issue lies

aaaaa thank u
our teacher WANTED us to make our resume all fancy and artsy like. she's a director/PR person i think and was so tired of the plain text format so anything without drawings and color and pizazz on it made her yawn lol

Good. Its so true though. I got a shitton of interviews because they found my resume AMAZING to the point they didnt read the fact i did not have 5 to 10 years experience like they hoped.
