So a little background and some concept-dumping for anyone who cares.
Much like I did with Eldwynn I have decided to use D&D as an excuse to rework old characters of mine that don't see much love. Where before it was Misha being reinvented, this time I have taken Shelby and had her remade as my current PC.
She's been changed from a tauros to a minotaur, aged up a little and made into a protective mother of the party (since I seem to have developed a thing for such characters), and given a pretty stereotypical-for-bulls short fuse to balance out her fiercely maternal nature. In the current campaign she's a peaceful healing monk with a habit of throwing herself into the jaws of near death to protect her friends. Not quite a barbarian rage level, but big angry mode nonetheless. You know, all that drivel about "when the peaceful person gets mad you'd better start running." Which is sound advice when the towering wall of muscle and maternal rage starts charging at you horns-first. Doubly so when she's doubled up in size from a cheeky growth potion; because of course I have access to those =3= (It wasn't even my idea this time, I swear!)
Despite all this though she has made an oath, as a bit of an ancestral healer type, to never take a life. While she's far from a pacifist, I always play her as going for non-lethal damage. That hasn't stopped her from pummeling numerous enemies into a fine paste so far but they were demons and undead so it doesn't count!
Originally I had planned for her to have an imposing, threatening aura at first glance given she's nearly 8 feet tall, built like a brick house, decked out in wicked bone trinkets and furs, probably covered in blood, and usually sporting a huge skull mask. The idea of course being that all of these things have perfectly rational, peaceful explanations. The trinkets are medical tools, the skull is an inherited heirloom of an ancestor, the blood is probably her own, she's quiet because she's shy, etc. Thought I've had so much fun portraying her as an outwardly bubbly and friendly go-getter that I haven't had a lot of opportunity to really play up the unintentional intimidation. That's fine, I'm still having fun!
