ahhh it's going I found some socket adaptors and epoxy-putty'd the shaft (spindle?) on the motor, so that i could slot the square part of the socket thingy! i'll blog about it more in detail soon. it's still a little tricky figuring out how to stabilize the dead centre side, but i think for now i'm happy to use it for the simple stuff. will save up for a proper lathe meanwhile!!!

not at all, it's not my idea, i'm just driving myself insane trying to figure out how to get nice-looking turns without busting the bank T-T

So do you not have a lathe? Other than this??? Maybe I can make some parts for it with mine for you if you need.

nope. can't afford one I might take you up on your offer, just tested it again with larger pieces and it's driving me insane that I don't have a collet/chuck to centre my pieces!! I just don't know how to secure it to the motor shaft
