Morningstar, the regional head of the North American BOS, decides to use Computer Mouse to bring the fennec heroine Chemigal back after her epic (and almost iconic) flight from the HQ....
Little does computer mouse know that the seemingly simple mission would run into some... unforeseen distraction problems when she encounters the most fascinating little girl she's seen so far....

Welcome to more of "Chemigal's Litany of Fail"

A collab with boss-hoss1 over DA here: boss-hoss1.deviantart.com/ I did the comic and he did the written story component... we both worked together on the story itself.

Couldn't cram all the text into a comic, so the detail is in the story below.

Interested in the story? read on.

----------------------------------------

Candice Merryweather, A.K.A. Legal Beagle frowned as she watched Chemgal run off into Colmaton’s enormous Peterson City Park, yelling “EVERYONE’S SO SUPERPOWERED UP!”
She shook her head and sighed. “Bloody great! Self-esteem issues. Truth be told, if I was new to the BOS, I’d be pretty rattled with the line-up in the break room today with so many of the big guns visiting…”

By the time she got out there, the fennec would be long gone. Anyfur currently on hand today to chase Chemgal might frighten her even worse.  Sighing again, Legal Beagle went back inside the secret base and closed the hidden exit door.

Quickly, the beagle went to the front desk as she updated Chemgal’s recruitment file notes;
“Risk & Mitigation;
1. Flight Risk
Found to be dissuaded from joining by meeting greatly powered supers.
→ May try to run!
Mitigation
→ Keep escorted in BOS base in trials.
→ Send a friendly looking agent to retrieve her.

Chewing on the end of the pen, She looked to the receptionist, Valerie Hall, AKA Gatling Goat “Oi, Valerie, is Morningstar in? I have a slight problem with a recruit… she’s missing.”

Valerie bleated out “Oh dear, She’s in, Candice. I’ll let her know you are on your way.” The beagle smiles in relief as she heads straight to Morningstar’s office and is quickly let in.

The buffalo in Native American garb accepts the clipboard and reads through it “Chemgal? Oh my, what’s going on with her? I was just in the break room a little while ago. She came in and left suddenly. She didn’t come down sick, did she?”

Legall Beagle’s ears drooped “Not quite.  I’m afraid Chemgal is feeling a bit overwhelmed at how many powerful supers were in today and took a scarper. Who do we have on-call right now who is not intimidating? I need somefur to retrieve her.”

Morningstar got a motherly look of concern on her face. “Oh No! That’s going to be a tough one Candice. So many of the furs that she might be comfortable with are not in today. The rest… Valerie is working here today, but.. Oh I got it!”

She taps a message on her computer, and moments later, Fiona Applegate, A.K.A. Computer Mouse hops from the screen as a red speck that grows into the red and yellow suited mouse herself as she appears  beside Legal Beagle. “Hi! I came as soon as I got the message. Who’s missing?”

Candice passed the clipboard over “One of the new recruits I believed you helped recommend; Chemgal. She got stage fright seeing an entire room of heavies. Last I saw of her she was running through the park like a Benny Hill skit.”

The red-headed grey mouse squeaked in dismay “Yipes! I’ll talk with her. She was amazing in disaster relief, and that’s something we need a lot more of.”

Morningstar gave a smile as she nodded “That’s exactly what I want you to do. I want you to bring her back as gently as possible. Try her home first and see if she’s there, or figure out where else she would have gone.”

Fiona pulls her ambler goggles down over her face with confidence “On my way, Morningstar!”

-------------

Soon, the red and yellow suited mouse pops out of a street camera several blocks from the address and lands gently on the street corner. She takes a moment to mentally orient herself on Google maps  “All right, so I  turn left here and head to the address... Don’t want to surprise her badly by popping out in full view of her home, or in it for that matter.”

Her shiny suit got a lot of surprised looks and a few leers.as she made her way to the house. It looked like a comfy, pleasant home with a lot of electronic activity she could feel. It had to be the right place. “Here goes nothing…”

The red-head knocked on the front door, her pink-rubber coated tail swishing as she heard something rushing to the door. A little camera by the door turned toward her and a child’s voice came from the door “Oh wow! Mommy! I think Computer Mouse is here! Can I let her in please?”

After a moment, the door opened, revealing a small kitten girl with pink fur and blond hair done up in pigtails and ribbons, and wearing a pink long-sleeved dress with several daisy patches sewn on. The kitten looked up from chest height, showing copper colored eyes. “Hi I’m Katey. Are you really Computer Mouse?”

Said mouse giggled and awwed at the overwhelming cuteness “Yes I am. The marbled fennec that lives here was at our HQ today. Murrie apparently wasn’t feeling well and left suddenly. Is she here?”.

Katey thinks a moment, putting her hand to her chin “I have not seen her since she left this morning. I can ask my mommy.” The kitten suddenly turned “MOMMY! HAS AUNT MURRIE BEEN BACK TODAY?”

Computer Mouse jumped back a bit and covered her ears for the yell, but relaxed when she heard a pleasant female voice “No, sweetie. Not yet.”
The mouse’s whiskers twitched though, she perked her ears, listening with her powers as a Wi-Fi signal had let out a burst a  moment before, and just now seemed to be probing her smartphone and other devices. She turned slowly, triangulating the signal source, finding herself looking at the kitten and realized she WAS the source.

Stunned, Computer Mouse knelt down and looked the kitten in her huge, bright copper eyes “Oh my! You are a very special little girl, aren’t you?”

Katey giggles and smiles at the heroine. “Mommy tells me that all the time.”

Computer Mouse looks the kitten up and down, amazed. “Wow, so you are an android? Pretty cool!”

Her face suddenly looks puzzled “I’m not supposed to tell anyone. How can you hear me that way? Mommy says no one is supposed to hear me listening to computers.”

Computer Mouse giggles “Because I do it too. Did you know I can even become one? A pretty little top-of-the-line Pagoda.laptop”

Katey gasps, suddenly worried “Don’t do it around me! I kinda accidentally killed someone’s computer when I plugged my hand in and saw the internet…”

At hearing that, Computer Mouse gave her a gentle hug “Thanks for the warning. You poor dear! I’m glad you seem to be all right after seeing what I wade through on a daily basis.”

The kitten gives a hug back “It’s okay, Mommy ran every antivirus we have and then a tapeworm program on me to clean out the yucky stuff. I don’t remember too much of what I saw.”

Computer mouse smiles in relief “Well, that’s good. Lucky you.”

Just then, an avian woman entered the room, dressed in a pink blouse and white slacks, and bearing a tray with a teapot, teacups, saucers and a plate full of assorted cookies. She was as much dinosaur as bird, an archeopteryx to be precise. She sported an olive green crest of feathers on her head like a cockatoo, framed in long silver tresses. Her feathers were mainly sky blue, trimmed in darker blue and white and looking long enough on her arms and long whiplike tail to fly.

Elsewhere on her body, her coppery tan beak had reptilian nostrils close to the front end instead of nares between the eyes like a bird. Her purple eyes shone brightly as she gave a bright smile full of small, sharp teeth. “Good day, Miss Computer Mouse, I am Archye Windsor. I believe my daughter making a new friend who knows what she is, is worthy of a nice little tea party.”

Little katey jumps excitedly “YAY! TEA PARTY!” and tugs Computer Mouse to take a seat. The mouse giggles softly as she sits on the couch. “Hello Ma’am! Beautiful accent. If you don’t mind my asking, where are you from originally?”

The elegant avian smiles brightly as she sets out the teacups and pours “Oh, please call me Archye, dear. I’m from Bermuda. I immigrated to Colmaton years ago and got lonely so I made Little Katey. You are the first to tumble on her secret without being told.  Oh where are my manners, would you like any sugar or milk in your tea?”

Computer Mouse smiles back at her, enjoying the surprise tea party. “Sugar please, two lumps.”

As the mouse stirred her tea and chatted with Archye, Katey giggled and took extra sugar and a handful of cookies. Several minutes later…

“Oh, Murrie? If she isn’t here, you can always find her at…”

Katey suddenly jumped up, flushed with excitement from a sugar rush. Her tiny fists shot into the air as she shouted “MAL-FUNCTION!”

Archye smoothed her fluffed up crest back down “Oh dear. Katey’s all wound up! Can you help me keep her occupied? Chat with her and maybe play some games until she slows back down?”

After a moment to get her tail to lay back down, Computer Mouse hurriedly finishes her tea “Oh! Yes, I can do that. Katey, do you like Super Smash Brothers?”

The android kitten bounces up and down “YAYYYY! LET’S PLAY! I’M KIRBY!”

While Computer Mouse went to get the game set up, Archye smiled “Ahh, thank you. I’ll see if I can find out what Murrie is up to in the meantime.” the mouse smiled in relief. “Thanks Archye!”

*****

The afternoon passed quickly with the two technological wonders chatting and playing games, not even noticing when Murrie and Archye walked past the couch behind them.

*****

Computer Mouse smiles as Katey finally seems ready for a nap, then gasps at the time “Oh shoot! I’m late! I need to get back to H.Q.!”

Archye smiles as she picks up her Little Katey “Thank you Computer Mouse! You’ve been a real help with her. Come back anytime!”
The mouse yawns and heads for the door “I’ll be glad to. Thanks again Archye.”

******

Fiona soon pops back into H.Q. and makes her costume vanish back into her normal street clothing, the costume unraveling into red and gold light as it vanishes.

As she turns around, she finds Morningstar waiting for her “It’s been hours! Did you find Chemgal?”

The red headed mouse suddenly froze with a deer-in-the-headlights look for a long moment, prompting Morningstar to frown “I take it that is a “No...”

Fiona sheepishly took her tail in her paws and looked down at the floor “Er, no. I met the family that lives in her home. An archaeopteryx and her adopted daughter. I love kids and she asked me to watch her while she looked into Murrie. I kinda got..”

Morningstar groaned “...Sidetracked.”

At the mouse’s sad nod, Morningstar relented. “Well, I suppose it can’t be helped. Just be more diligent in the future. At least I contacted BOS St. Louis and asked her friend to look into it too...”
