Description
A painting I worked on with ! This was the only thing we did in art club all year XD It's supposed to go on the cafeteria wall to replace the freaky weird-eyed cowboy that faces from where we sit XDThe design is by ~KozueKaz , I only painted the sun parts and she did the moon and water. This is the first time I did something on such a huge scale (the board is maybe 1.5m X 1.5m?) but it was so much fun to just slap strokes on XD! Thanks for letting me work on it with you! It's kind of funny how the sun is always (I think) associated masculinity, and the moon as feminine, but it's really hard to tell here XD

Aww thank you so much!
Painting on large scale is so different, you can mess around, but when you look from afar, you can't tell it's messy XD of course that's only for my part XD

Awsome! I'd love to do a mural at my school *we have so many already though >___>
And if you're wondering about the sun and moon thingy, it's derived from the greeks.
y'see, there were these twins, a boy and a girl, and they were the gods of the moon & sun. Apollo (guy) was the sun, and Artemis (girl) was the moon.

Thanks! We had a lot too, but like I said, we don't like some of them XP! You really should try it, it's so much fun!
lol I don't know how I could've forgotten Apollo and Artemis from Greek mythology! it's nice to be able to make the connection now XD

Aww thanks! I like the fact the colors turned out pretty clean ^^ haha the strokes only look smooth because this was taken from far way (on the sun), if you saw if up close, you'd see all that XD but yeah, I always wanna see the real thing XD

Nice bold colors, and I like the symmetry in the sun's face.
Hmm...in Shinto mythology, the sun (Teruhi) is female and the moon (Tsukishiro) is male. Noriko Ogiwara does a really interesting take on this in Dragon Sword and Wind Child.

Hehe it's very bright XD that's from being to lazy to mix the paint! now that you mention it, the sun isn't really round T.T
Oh really! That's really interesting! A girl talked about the sun being female and moon male, and we didn't believe her XD ... but she's Islamic...
When is that book gonna be out in english?

I don't know about Canada, but it was released in the U.S. October 16, 2007. Check your local library. ^^

Oh. It was already released. Because you kept talking about it, I thought it hadn't... or I'm just mixing a few of them up. Well I'll definitely do that.

Or, you know what? You could be thinking about Seirei no Moribito (same translator, different author). That was a very recent release (in fact, local bookstore is only getting the first shipment today--my friend has gone to buy me a copy! )
Dragon Sword was originally published in 1988, and then 1992. Now it's being re-released by Viz Media (as you might know thru Naruto, Fullmetal Alchemist...).
Seirei no Moribito is being released for the first time in the U.S. on a much larger scale by Scholastic/Arthur A. Levine (the Harry Potter series).
Both books I would highly recommend to anyone, and both books also have sequels lined up for stateside releases. (Hirano-san wrote to me about her currently working on Dragon Sword's sequel's translation, and I saw an article from Scholastic talking about the cover design of the next book in the Moribito sequence...)
Anyways, hope that cleared things up. ^_^

Leaving in such a hurry I forgot to check until now, but no they don't have it here. I'm hoping I'll be able to find it in a big place like Toronto when I go in sept! lol you must've informed everyone about your passion!
... you really actually DO stuff about what you're passionate about...

XueLian In reply to snowp [2008-06-22 22:25:26 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, well, I do talk about it a lot. I've been doing stuff for it since 2003 (I was 12), writing stuff, talking to librarians, making the website and finding old fans. The translator only contacted me in May this year, though, because she wanted to thank me personally. I really didn't think I had anything to do with its re-release until Hirano-san told me so.

Wow ! you guys did an awesom job The design is really cool and I loove the painting !
The brush strokes are just so smooth and flowing, you can't even tell the sun and moon were painted by two different people

Thank you so much Wowie! According to ~KozueKaz , everyone in art class can make nice designs and that excludes me XD... oh more people from school who makes cool designs, in case you're interested: ,
lol it's only because the original is so large that you can't see all the bad strokes on my part XD
