Eh, I think the more I experiment to find just the right style, the more I think I should just do what's easy, consistent, and still looks good.

I've been really sick for the past 10 days and still need a few more days to recover (some sort of bacterial infection), so I started watching "advanced" DAZ Studio lighting and rendering tutorials on Youtube to see if I could learn something. Needless to say, I could have better spent that time sleeping. No one wants to share any details; one realism tutorial's lighting section basically consisted of "drop in two light sets from Elianeck".

Well fine, as soon I could see straight, I set up a quick little scene with the same girl from my other test pics (who I will probably work into my story at this point, maybe as Tanja, Sahmika's childhood friend), and did a bunch of renders with only HDRI lighting, no postwork, and no editing of any material settings between renders. Results above.

Fourth render (interior 3D) is the only one of these with an actual 3D mesh background. All use a single HDRI for their lighting (I think three are from HDRI Haven and two are included with Substance Painter). Each rendered in DAZ Studio at 4000 pixels high, 600 iterations, shrunk to 1600 pixels high in Photoshop. No other postwork aside from combining renders and text.

Need to lay down again, but I guess this was a productive day. Thanks very much for taking a look!
