Starting off Mermay 2021 strong with some nightmare fuel! This little bivalve was inspired by MayContainBirdseed 's Unconventional Mermaids series.

I got to take advantage of some new tools in Clip Studio that I hadn't gotten around to, and indulge my unending desire to draw creepy things in months that aren't October. It was a ton of fun! The colored patches on their arm and and in parts of the background were due to my auto-selection tool not playing nice with my coloring method, and me realizing it actually looked really cool. Hopefully I can figure out a way to recreate the effect in another drawing!

Note about Mermay in general: I'll be posting one merperson a week on Saturday, with sporadic posting throughout the rest of the week of a few 2020 Mermays that didn't get posted for one reason or another. I got a bit overwhelmed last year, and this May is somehow even busier than the last one.
