Initially I was going to do some sort of progress thing, where I was going to make a fade from sketch to completion, but then the whole thing ended up looking so good that I ditched the idea. Also, it got progressively more creepy while I was drawing this. The creepiest jump was when I decided to use a decapitated fish head as the wrap on their upper body. Their design is a bit chaotic (it initially started as a deep-sea Ariel... that plan went out the window early on) but I ended up really liking it after adding colors.

I didn't use a lot of layers this time, but the layers I did use were mostly focused on getting that eerie glow, as well as the lighting from the glow, right.

I did much of my lineart color changing with the background fully black or very dark in order to make sure things looked right. And without main colors? the bright parts of the lineart just popped.

It's funny... I opened Clip Studio today going "I'll make a quick Mermay since I got inspired to draw something else." And then three hours later I had this. I really don't know how to make sketches and keep them that way.
