Everyone has such sympathetic comments... maybe I'm just lacking in emotions, but here's what I think it is:

Robots rock! I'm cracking on some more robots too lately. You always create great moods in your pieces. This one has an awesome dreary setting complimented with great colors. Somebody else mentioned it but right now the bird does look like it is pushed more in the back. Maybe bring it out with stronger colors so it is less faded.

Paranoid Android, right off the bat.
Also, perhaps a robot made to order, but got shipped too late, so by the time he's arrived the whole place is a wreck. So here he is, spankin' new, with nothing to do and no one to do it for. Just a few curious songbirds to pass the time with....

He looks rather lonely.
That, or he's sad 'cause he just lost his house and now has to sleep in a cardboard box, or something.

a robot supporting lonerism to the max!
okay, no, not really.
i think he's contemplating life. & what it means to live even when all there is is to die. or why people destroy themselves so willingly.

I work with default Photoshop brushes, I simply adjust the brush flow to 12%, nothing tricky.

Life was once as simple as a cardboard box.
Everything made sense, and the complicated didn't matter.
One day that box broke... and the world wasn't simple anymore.
That picture is really more symbolic of the last month of my life than I can easily explain. Especially with the combination of the birds and the cardboard box (both were literally symbols I've already used).
As far as the birds... the bird on the box flew away, and the robot/person looked up after it, reaching out, but unable to grasp.
Thank you for this work. It is simply put, amazing. Well done, and so close to what I'm feeling.

I like the sorrow in the eyes . . . it really deepens the image. In more ways than one.
It's like that little bird is the last symbol of hope. A dirty, scruffy dove rising from a world destroyed.

Great as always. Amazing that you made a robot look so sad, I mean robots cant change face characteristics to show their mood.
And the whole atmosphere is fantastic.
At some point it kind of reminds me of the Rocket brothers music video with Kashmir

wow that is an amazing painting! I love the feel of it.. the mood is like "trashed", as though the robot was unwanted and shipped away to an old metal/junk yard, and only the one bird will befriend him. I'm not sure of the significance of the bird in flight.. and Im sure the box means more than they eye can see...
Its one of those "makes you think" pictures... Its very well done!

Wow, you've done it again, one of the best
works on dA I think...
So you want to know what
we all think about this piece? Well... As I get the
emotcion... The robot, as in many movies being brought out as the "heartless" sees the birds around
him and the birds flying and the birds are free, as
they represent freedom. So, I think, that it's
the feeling of capitivity (if I spelled it right) . And
You've used dark, but still abit glowing colours in
this piece, so the robot is most likely depressed
for not being as free as the birds are, independent,
not relieble on others and any laws... But the robot,
on the other hand has his own system, he can't do
whatever he wants to and so on.. Or, well,
atleast that's my emotcion...
I got this emotcion
becuase I made quite like a same drawing like
2 months ago, not a robot sitting on a cardbox, but a robot wanting to be as free as the birds are.
Thanks for sharing this artwork with deviantArt

what the people have to say, huh? well its a cool picture, but the surroundings make it have that kinda depressing feeling to it. the birds are a nice touch. the only real signs of biological life. with the surroundings the way they are, they give some kind of hope.
