Description
Ah yes. The dorkiest mother's day gift I'll ever give to my mum, however late it may be. At least I started it on the day of mother's day (I would have started sooner if it weren't for my meddling teachers and their homework distribution)... >_>I honestly have no real clue as to why I picked Deerling and Sawsbuck, instead of some bird Pokemon or something, to represent "kids leaving the nest." But I guess that would have been cliche. XD
Anyways, let me explain this picture:
These Pokemon represent my family. The Sawsbuck is my mother and the Deerling are her children (both my brothers and myself).
The reason why it's only a single Sawsbuck present is because I'm a divorce child. And she's acting all frantic and what not because her children are beginning to grow up to that stage where they need to leave their parental and live an individual life. But the Sawsbuck always sort of feels bad about losing her children, thus she knows she'll get a little lonely when we all leave. However, before that, the Deerling on her back represents me and that I'm still in her care. But since I'm still growing up and am going to reach college in a few years, I'm preparing to leap.
The other Deerling to the right is my eldest brother Justin who's walking alongside his mother because he is an individual. He's in college and can leave home whenever he wants. He is not longer in care of his mother, and yet he walks beside her anyways because he still lives in her home for support.
The last Deerling to the left is my other brother, Adam, who's the middle child. He's so far off into the distance because at home, he's always hiding himself within his room and keeping the door shut. He only comes out for certain reasons... So I feel that he's drifting away from the family a little. But he's looking back because he knows he needs his Sawsbuck. Adam is on his feet (and not on the Sawsuck's back, like me) because he's in college and is trying to be an individual like his older brother. But his pace has slowed almost to a stop, for he cannot muster the harshness that is living alone - he has no responsibilities, or at least he doesn't see them.
Since the Deerling are pink and the Sawsbuck has blossoms in her antlers: this picture is in Spring, obviously. It's Spring, I suppose, because Mother's day is in that season. I guess that was a little too obvious. I would have more to say about this feature, but...uh. I can't really think of anything (let's consider the time in which I am posting this picture (11:58pm)).

So much thought behind this! Wow! The colors and posing are excellent.
However, I think you could completely remove the birds from the piece. They distract from the main focus (the deer) and I realize they are stylized but they are a bit too blobby. Their dark colors also contribute to their distracting quality, as does the odd texture over them; otherwise I love your use of texture.
Just a bit of constructive criticism, this is a grand emotional piece of work here!

Why thank you.
Rarely have I been criticized for my work. I'm really grateful for this.
I'll see what I can do, but I have unfortunately deleted my PSD file, so obviously I've lost all my layers for this picture. I can see what I can do, and if it doesn't work out, I'll just have to have your comment ready for future reference.
Thank you, anyway. I'll leave what you said in mind, at the very least.

Don't delete your files aggggh!
And im not saying you have to change it, ya, just consider it! And no problem, you have to be careful offering criticism on DA: some people love it (like me, and you obviously) and others get really, really touchy. But to me that's a huge part of what DA is for.

...I like to conserve space on my computer, plus I don't want to feel like I'm cluttering it. I guess I should just organize... >_>;
Urgh, I dislike those kind of people, but it makes sense when they're not asking for it. But when they do and act out, it's kind of beside the point...
Yes, most definitely. That's why they've set up the comment system so the artist can get nice constructive comments. However, people seem to be neglecting the system. <_< Or at least the people that stream toward me.

DON'T DOOOO THAT! Agh why would you do that? Organize! It only takes like 15 minutes to do it. Or less; new folder-> photoshop and your done! I never delete anything that might been even remotely relevant someday.
And I know it's an issue. Most people are just DERP "HOW COOL" some are just mean, and others do have good criticisms/well thought out comments. But I can deal with "cool." THE WORST to me is when someone comments on fan art and says "i love that character" or "I remember that scene" and NOTHING ABOUT THE ART. GAH. I LOVE THAT CHARACTER TOO THAT'S I DREW THEM SO WHAT???!!!!
Anyway. I rant.

Well, I can't predict the future. ;A; Besides, I never like going back to a finished drawing and fixing things. I don't know why, I've always been like that. ._.
But you're right. I should keep all my crap.
Lol exactly. I get those kind of comments all the time: I tend to not to reply to them at all. I mean, how the hell do you reply to "I love this picture" or "Lol that character b doing somfin funnylololol."
I completely agree with your rant. u_u The mean people are the worst.

YES thank you.
And I hate going back and messing with my old pics too. Still, what if you need to remember how you got a certain look? Most of all, what if you need a higher resolution version for some other purpose, like a portfolio or for creating a print? That's my attitude, until I really need the space I keep multiple files (usually like 4: sketch, in progress, almost finished, and finished) so you can see why I'm shocked that you would delete anything. XD

Lol wow. I never meant to excite you like that. XD;; Sorry.
My excuse is that I used to make Youtube videos of me playing video games such as Rule of Rose, Silent Hill 4, etc. These videos take up a lot of space on my computer, so I figured instead of deleting the already posted videos and keeping the art, I went ahead and deleted the art like the sentimental person I am.
I should probably delete the videos... >_>; Also considering I don't even record much anymore. |D;

This is wonderful, and so sweet. Again, I adore your colouring; especially the cross-hatching effect, it just makes the picture so much prettier. You also have the lighting perfect for a sunny Spring day ^^ The little birds are also a pretty touch.
I also love how it has so much meaning, and even their positions have a meaning. I also like how the Deerling with represents you is the only one that doesn't look worried. I love how throught provoking your pictures are. ^^
I bet your Mum loved it
